Looks really incredible. Very, VERY lifelike. It's creepy.

They have all the movements and mannerisms spot on. Imagine what AA's will be like in 10 years time!

His face isn't perfect, but he forms words better than any humanoid AA figure we've ever seen before, rather than just opening and closing his mouth.

For those who still haven't seen it...

He won. Get over it.

It's a really good animatronic though, the face is a bit dodgy, but the movements are amazing.

It's his ****ty attitude, he gets like this whenever Obama is mentioned.

Even you, who isn't a Disney fan, said it was awesome. It is cool, but he has to leave some little snide comment like usual.

That may be true, but let me ask you, why isn't someone allowed to have an opinion on a president? You better believe that there would be plenty of "snide" comments made if it was Bush. :)

Although, yes, it was out of place. I'll give you that.

On topic: Yes, it looks amazing. The new Disney animatronics are incredible. The newest ones that I've seen were on Spaceship Earth (after the rehab), and they're really life-like. It's really amazing to see how far they've come since the choppy animatronics that were introduced in the '80s (even though I'm aware that they were introduced before well before that).

I wonder if Obama did the voice recording, or if Disney just lifted it somehow from Inauguration Day records, or if someone else made it.

"A new AA. Big deal" isn't really an opinion. I mean, it shows an opinion, but like you said, it's just misplaced.

There was an article in the Orlando Sentinel the other day that said it was a recording of a speech that he made. So yes, it's his voice.

You still get a bit of the fantastic uncanny valley effect going on here. It's amazing how they've managed to accomplish this though. The only thing is that facial animation is still a long way off. It looks kinda like in Fallout 3 when you talk to people.

Also, I'd like to point out that the face looks more like the middle picture here:

http://dotgiri.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/bush-to-obama1.jpg

...Than what he really looks like, but that may be the video and not the model itself.

I agree, the head is a bit off. I think the animatronics hair is a bit light, as well.

Yes, he recorded both the speech and the Oath of Office for Disney. Obama even said the AA looks better than he does.

The only other presidents to have recorded speeches for Hall of Presidents were Clinton and G. W. Bush. Personally, I think it was really nice of them to do so.

I just don't think it's a huge deal. Now, if it could jump off the stage and walk around, then that would be different. It's like me posting that CF is buying new trash cans.

This thread isn't for Disney-hate, or Obama-hate, it's for saying, "Hey, this is a pretty damned cool bit of tech!"

Now, I don't like to point fingers, but CPer, make me an audio animatronic. I doubt you could, whereas I'm sure you could make a trash can. It's a bit different you see. Your logic is nonsensical. Your posts in this thread have only one purpose, to annoy others; trolling.

If you're allowed to state your opinion, I'm allowed to state mine. It is cool, but it's just not a huge deal. It's not Disney-hate or Obama-hate, it's just that it doesn't seem, well, that amazing.

How is it not amazing? I mean, animatronic technology hasn't really been around that long. And look at it. It's pretty realistic. The movements are human like.

It was okay, the body movements were more natural than the older ones. But did anyone think he looked a little, well, white?

CedarPointer
07-04-2009, 03:23 PM
^Yeah, the face could use some work. Obama is, however, half white, though. But the face *is* really light...

I really wish they would update the AAs in the older rides (Peter Pan, etc) instead of *just* putting them in new attractions.

It's the lighting, which is why I said you should see him in the dark. All of the presidents are darker skinned than their real life counterparts to make up for the lighting. Obama looks BLACK black without the lighting.

From the look of the video, the house lights were up way bright... probably for media filming. This would make the pigments used for the figures to look washed out, lighter than they would when the lights are at their normal settings. Personally, I can't wait to see Robobama in person... looks like my 1st chance will be near Halloween... then late December.
