The Cloud Cuckoo Land Sky Ride station has been completely destroyed in a fire. Firefighters were called to attend the blaze at 10:30pm. Six fire crews were sent and brought the flames under control after around four hours.

No guests or employees were present at the time, and there have been no injuries as a result.

The station, situated in Cloud Cuckoo Land (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/index.php?id=14) at the far end of the park near Rita (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=14) and Charlie (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=85), was gutted by the fire.

It is the second such incident to affect the Sky Ride (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=30) in less than two years, with another station's roof having been wrecked (http://www.towersalmanac.com/index.php?show_story=329) in October 2007.

In a statement, Alton Towers said: "The station has been destroyed and the ride will therefore not reopen for the foreseeable future.

"There will be cosmetic alterations to the park tomorrow as certain areas will have to be fenced off during the fire service investigation into the cause of the fire.

"The park will be open as normal from 10am with some rides open for early ride time at 9am."

It is expected that the ride will be out of action for the remainder of the 2009 open season, which runs until the start of November.

The fire crews have done there investigation and this is the result. This was take for Towersnerd.com:

Fire Investigation Concluded
As reported yesterday, the Cloud Cuckoo Land Sky Ride station was destroyed in a devastating fire on Tuesday evening. The fire reduced the station to it's steel framework, and has left the Sky Ride out of action for the foreseeable future.

Fire Investigation officers have been on site to determin what was the cause of the fire, and they have come to the conclusion that it was an electrical fault that sparked the inferno. While the park has been open as usual yesterday, with the exception of the Sky Ride, Alton Towers offered vouchers for money off a return trip, if anyone felt that the aftermath of the fire had caused them any inconvenience.

I am so glad the no one was hurt, it could of been a lot worse if it was one of the main ride like Nemesis, Air or Rita.

But the Skyride :(! You will miss the stunning view of the gardens. And being suspended that high in the air by what looks and feels like a tiny piece of sting is far more terrorfying than even Oblivion, which is one scary ride!

The main thing thats peeving the AT fanboys is that we wont be able to take as many decent pictures of SW6. No more aerial shots
