Follow the tutorials on using the 'Importer'. Everything needed is in the first few threads of the CS forum.

^ That doesn't help. I can't find anything. What I need to know is:
How to make the .skp file into a .dat file.
How to get it to work in RCT3.
How to use it.
And, How to get it to show up under the "Fences" tab.

Yes it does help. Since you wont go look at it for yourself, I'll get them for you.
You are going to need the SU Plug-ins and the Importer.

Which link had the "virus"?
Edit: If you look at those tutorials it explains what to do with it
As far as the plugins. Open the zip file. Put those three files in C:\Program Files\Google Sketchup 7\Plugins

I tried that, and many things dont make sense:
~ how he got that texture box that he selected the textures from - im using stuff from the My Pictures folder!
~ thats for sketchup 6. i have sketchup 7. not a big difference, but its enough to confuse me.
~ the ASE importer goes in the sketchup files!? wtf that definately doesnt make sense!
~ does it have to be a perfect 4h?
~ why does it have to be 4h?
~ how do u use the importer? i have no idea how to do it, and thats the most important part!
~ how do u make 3d objects!?

For Christ sakes, how old are you? Sounds likes your a spoiled freakin brat, that when things dont come easy for you, you just up and quit. Making custom scenery takes ALOT of trial and error. Most of us CS makers still go throught that process today, even though we have been doing it for a couple of years. I would suggest playing around with sketchup like i did for awhile, just to get the hang of things. I have tutorials to, just click the link in my signature.......P.S. we all got frustrated to, but we never cryed about it, just hang in there, you will get it. If not, then i suggest not to start new NOOB threads on "how do i" crap, then get pissed off when it dont work right away for you, because crap like this gets to be really old.....should i say Good luck, or Good bye?

The tutorials never said that making CS was going to be easy. We're talking about making a 3d model and making sure its exavct size, position and textures make it into the game to be used in conjunction with other scenery! But the tutorials those links provide give all the answers; other things are just common sense.
For example, if you need to get textures into google sketchup to use, you click the materials button (the paint bucket), find the plus button (which is add new material) then next to the long box click the browse button and browse for the file in My Pictures.
Google sketchup 6 and 7 are the same for you; i haven't yet found any difference. Your fence doesn't have to be 4h if in a tutorial it says 'make it 4h' that#s because they're making something that's 4h. Fences are usually 1-2h.
You use the ASE exporter on your 3d models to make them compatible for the importer. The importer will need you to specify the model so that it will look right in the game. Because the game can't read your mind.
I understand that this can be a long and sometimes overwheming process, but once you know how it becomes quickly easy. That being said, going crazy at the sight of a few files won't make them magically disappear, and yelling won't summon up a solution. Many modellers on this site had none of the tutorials to work with, so if they can do it, then we can all do it.

If you want to make your own custom scenery it takes time. Just read (or watch) the tutorials and don't give up at the very first hurdle you encounter.

Anyway a chainlink fence should be an alpha texture , or it would be way too many polys.

one thing, you have the evaluation version, will it work?
RCT3Callum
08-08-2009, 01:08 PM
^ I think as long as it accepts plug-ins he'll be fine.
How many polys is that fence? You should be looking at 2 polys per panel, using an Alpha. So, you should be able to do the 4 sides by rotating that piece, for a total of 8 polys. You will probably want 45degree angled too.
coasterfreak
08-08-2009, 01:25 PM
^ actually i recently exported wall 2D and got 4 polys instead of 2. it only had the front and back face. And i used an alpha texture....
RCT3Callum
08-08-2009, 01:30 PM
I recently exported many at 2 faces each. A 2d panel with my push/pull effect in Sketchup will have 2. Not sure why that is. :S

actually, according to the importer (which i still have to learn how to use), it has 72 sides. (does that mean 72 polys?)
RCT3Callum
08-08-2009, 01:39 PM
72 Polys yep. That's not exactly massive, but for one panel you should be looking at 2.
I think you are actually using a texture, rather than modelling all the separate chains? Is it an alpha (transparent background)? Because if not you're gonna have a solid colour background.

you can see right thru the texture, so im pressuming its an alpha. could the 70 extra polys be coming from the support beams and textures used on them? do i need to take those out? (i can make separate beams for the final set, so its no bother to take them out ATM.)
RCT3Callum
08-08-2009, 01:47 PM
The texture is see through? You need to set the texture to SIAlpha in the Importer then.
I'd take the beams out for now yes.
Build one piece at a time rather than a giant square - that'll be more versatile in the end.

every square is 2 polys cause the game turns the square into two triangles. That is why coasterfreak got 4 for the alpha.
anyways primestar, that texture you are using looks like a sketchup texture, you can't use those.

Why not? Where can i get more alpha textures? :bulb:
coasterfreak

^actually you can save textures from sketchup, just not colors. by doing this you have to open up the paint bucket, right click on the "fencing_chain_link" then select Export Texture Image. Now save it as a .png, this will be your alpha texture. Then when you are importing your object, make sure you set it as an SIAlpha.

Again, dont give up just because somebody else made the same thing, or released their set before you....look at all the WDW sets, out there, and a couple people are making an Indiana Jones set, a few more people made coaster supports sets......get the idea now? You give up way too easy. P.S. Where is Spencerville, Ohio? I live in Monroeville, 15 minutes away from Cedar Point, in Sandusky, Ohio.

Yea, I get the point... Just, I have to get better at CS to be able to make something like that. I have to get the importer working first, then I have to find new textures to create the barbed wire, more realistic chain link (the chain link in SketchUp looks kinda weird), ect.
And about the other thing...
Ok, if you live in Ohio, you may have heard of the city of Lima, right? The one with all the drug raids and shootings? (pronounced "LY-Mah") Spencerville is a small, quiet town about 12 miles to the south of Lima.
coasterfreak

yeah, i heard of Lima, you are about 2 and a half hours away from me. anyhow.....sorry i sounded like a jerk in the earlier posts, but i hate too see new people give on things like making custom scenery. who knows, you might surprise everybody once you get the hang of it by creating something everybody needs/wants! :) ;)

Yea, this is what i would like to create, once i get the skillz:
- Industrial Chain Link
- Airport kit (with runway lights, runways, a few planes, ect.)
- Cornfeilds (with tall, short, harvested, and with fences.)
- Common House kit (to build realistic houses, with aluminum siding, brick, shingled roofs, ect.)
coasterfreak
08-09-2009, 08:50 PM
Well i do have a common house set, it even has plywood roofs, and walls, but it will be interesting to see what you come up with! Cornfields? that would be interesting too.

yea, lol, pretty much the only things on my list are things we have too much of here in ohio.... so why not share it with the world?
i'll check out your house set, see what it is. i'm still gonna have to get the importer working and get more textures, and/or make my own, so i have a feeling my first cs set won't be out for quite a while, so don't be waiting for it. it will come. (probably....)

thats fine, good custom scenery takes alot of time. alot of trial and error at first, then once you get the hang of it, it will be a breeze! will wait for it!
