The ride has already reopened.

I wonder if the quicker reopening of Firehawk tips off the fate of SoB...

I would say yes.

Vekoma, what more can you say...

Anyways, it's sad, anyone dieing at a park is. But the fact that it has already re-opened will start to raise questions about SoB.

^He didn't die at the park. And the ride had nothing to do with it... :bulb: "What more can you say?"

I'm a little confused, what does the quick reopening of Firehawk have anything to do with SoB.

it took a year for SoB to reopen after the crash in 2006, and now its closed again because some 60-year old got a head injury on it.

This place has been a death trap lately.

^ I wouldn't necessarily put it that way... It's just the people that visit seem to be walking time bombs. SoB and Firehawk didn't harm them due to a malfunction, but rather the occupants couldn't handle what the ride is intended to do. They had been warned with the safety signs so I don't think they should put the park at fault (which I'm sure someone will do eventually).

It was caused by the ride. "A Toledo man is dead after riding the Firehawk roller coaster at the Kings Island theme park." I should have phrased it better. And he was pratically dead at the park, he did ionhosiptal, caused by being at the park.

^ It wasn't caused by the ride as they already opened it and stated that the ride was running properly under vekomas instructions.

I was just at King's Island yesterday, and the logo for SoB has been removed from the sign.

Actually, the SoB inccident, when the 27 injuries occured, was caused by train derailment. Firehawk, on the other hand, had nothing wrong with it.

I honestly think SoB is going bubyes this Winter, and come next year we'll be under the CF mindset of "What wooden looping coaster? I have no idea what you're talking about".

randomperpie: He obviously had some sort of pre-existing medical condition... but we really don't know yet until that news is public... if it goes public. There's a bazillion signs and warnings regarding this very subject and how "Cedar Fair does not know your personal health risks... YOU DO. If you are in doubt about your ability to safely ride, you SHOULD NOT RIDE"

You simply can't put this on the park, the ride, the manufacturer, or anything the like... any way you look at it. Yes, the ride may have triggered the events leading to his death, but it wasn't because the ride did anything wrong or out of the ordinary.

As evidence of how a ride could be blamed when it really is a pre-existing condition that is truly at fault...

I recently learned of a person in my high school graduating class (24 years ago -- ugh, do I feel old!) who died from a brain anurysm. She wasn't doing anything along the lines of riding a coaster, or any other such thing. It just burst.

My father-in-law has had issues with anurysms in his legs, and has had a couple of surgeries to deal with them because of the risk that they could simply burst at any time. My father-in-law is afraid of heights, so he has very little interest in riding roller coasters (although he has been on Iron Dragon at Cedar Point, and really liked it).

A roller coaster ride certainly isn't likely to help these issues, but it also doesn't cause them. If a person knows that they have such issues, they shouldn't be riding a coaster. Sadly, many people don't find out about such issues until it is too late and the anurysm bursts, but, unless there becomes a requirement that everyone must get a full health screening before riding any amusement ride, those issues are still beyond the control of the amusement parks.

It didn't derail, a piece of wood cracked that supported the track. (There's a picture of it somewhere)

And I was talking about the accidents that happened this season.

Well, there you have it, folks! SoB sign is gone, "Son of Beast ENTRANCE" is gone, and the Fun and Safety Guide has vanished. The SAE Fun and Safety guide is still there (I think), and the "See the fear on your face!" and "Guests with unusual body proportions..." signs are still there. Bye, SoB!

Vekoma, what more can you say...

...No. Don't blame the manufacturer, that ride is perfectly fine. I was on it two weeks ago. It's the smoothest Vekoma I've been on (and yes, it actually is smooth), it's really fun too. Don't blame the ride, the guy had health issue's.

It's sad that guy died, though. They reopened it so soon though because it wasn't the ride's fault, and it still attracts a big-ish crowd. So I'm not surprised they opened it quickly.

Wow... Thanks for the pics. Yeah... uhm, that stuff doesn't go away for no reason. Take your last pics of that big ugly SOB while you still can! :haha:

I can't resist replying to this. Do you actually think that EITHER of these incidents were the park's fault? If we're going by that standard, Disney World is an even worse deathtrap.

If you want a rough Vekoma, go ride Hang'n'bang Jr., aka Reptar.
