Hello there,

I have created a config-pack for using the huge "Steel Battalion"-controller with I-War2. You need to get or build a XBOX-USB-cable and install the vtchid-driver from http://www.tamanegi.org/prog/vtchid/

Download the config-pack from:
http://www.filefront.com/14412481/I-War2_SB-Controller-config.zip

For help and feedback please reply to this post or send me a PM.

From the readme:

You can put your dusting Steel Battalion-controller to good use with this config-pack!

You only need to install vtchid 0.2.1 from http://www.tamanegi.org/prog/vtchid/, connect the controller via a Smartjoy X2-USB cable or a selfbuilt-one, load up the appropiate vtchid-profile of choice (whether you want to use the pedals or not), and copy the iwar2-configfile into the <Game>\configs\ directory.

Select the control-config "vtc" in the iwar2-options ingame and off you go.

Some notes to the control-scheme:
- Autopilot and comms are on the Comm-Buttons naturally. Select the Autopilot/Commtarget-Mode with the Tuner Dial.
- Toggle "VT-Location Measurement" toggles between Fly-by-Wire On/Off.
- Toggle "Buffer Material" switches the Sight-Change-Stick between control of the HUD-Menu and Strafing thrusters (Axes RX and RY).
- Throttle is set with the Gear-Lever.
- Manual Thrust is given with Center-/Right-pedal. They can be very sensitive and dont always exactly center the axes U and V). Maybe I swap the axes u and V for the axes X and Y, because you can give them deadzones in flux.ini.

For the details, consult vtc.ini and iwar2pedals.sdp (driver-settings from vtchid) with a texteditor.

Have fun!

I've never seen this controller, and that tamanegi link you posted appears to be dead. Got a link to a picture or description of it? It sounds interesting.

The tamanegi-link is working, just retry it. It is the website of a japanese-guy who created the USB-HID-driver for using this controller with your standard-Windows-PC. You might want to Google-translate it, though since it is on japanese (but the driver-software is on english). If you have problems downloading it, send me a PM, I can send you the archive.

I think the original Capcom-/Nudemaker-websites are down, but there are some community-websites devoted to this game and its multiplayer-addon.

I have a link to a description of the controller and a description of the Steel-Battalion-game:
There is also a community around the multiplayer-addon Steel Battalion:Line of Contact:

Commercials (worth a look)
Steel Battalion Teaser Commercial (japanese):

Steel Battalion Short Commercial (HQ):
Steel Battalion: Line of Contact Multiplayer Trailer:

The game is rarely sold new, as it was limited. But you may still find it used on eBay, since most gamers play the singleplayer-game and then stop playing it after a while. So would I have done, if I wouldnt have discovered the possibility to use it as a Mech-/Flightcontroller for PC-games.

If you get one, I would give you support in programming it or customizing my controller-profiles.

Have fun,

StingerAJ

EDIT: you are right, the first tamanegi-link didnt work, when clicking on it, the link-target differed from the link-text. Weird. I corrected it, it should now work. Have fun!
