WOT pop quiz!

SPOILERS

SPOILERS
SPOILERS

The idea is simple, ask a question, if three people miss it you answer it and ask another, if they get it they get to ask a new one.

question 1: How many forsaken are permanently dead?

Only those killed by balefire...those being:

Be'lal
Rhavin
Graendal
Semhirage
Asmodean (balefried by Graendal)

And, if you believe the threats of the Dark One, Aginor (Osan'gar-Dashiva).
Supposedly, his last incarnation as Osan'gar was a last bid chance to serve. He was not killed with balefire, per se, but if'n he ain't a'comin' back...that's six.

So five, possibly six.
I am assuming Graendal balefried Asmo...as it seems reasonable to conclude that she wouldn't want him coming back in another body. And even if she didn't, we see from Demandred's POV where he visits the DO at Shayol Ghul, that Asmo isn't going to be revived. The DO says as much.

Can one of you edit your posts? Either Dato'vs to warn of spoilers, or the Adversary to possibly provide a KoD answer rather than a tGS answer? There's no reason why this can't be a spoiler free thread.

Oh, and if you're putting Asmodean (no where near proved to have been killed by Balefire! ) and Aginor on that list, you should also put Sammael on it. RJ confirmed that he won't be coming back either, as much as you disagree with that statement, Adversary.

Sorry about that. Ad, i would think asmo would not be killed by balefire as whoever killed him would want the DO to torture him for all eternity.

Now, why don't one of you ask a question so we can all continue this thread?

Toram Riatin rather than Thomas.

(Oh and there's a possibility that he "influenced", (not twisted though) Morgase/Rahvin. He headed to Caemlyn before going to TV, and it was hearing of rebellion in the Two Rivers that inspired Morgase to break the compulsion).

Olver was riding, and I think the horses name was Wind.

Is the aim to do this quiz from memory or research?
Because this is WoT on the Internet. The answers take about 10 seconds to find.

Oh - and bonus points for giving the old tongue/aiel names for the 12 societies..

The 12 Aiel warrior societies are as follows :

Far Dareis Mai (Maidens of the Spear)
Shae'en M'taal (Stone Dogs)
Aethan Dor (Red Shields)
Seia Doon (Black Eyes)
Far Aldazar Din (Brothers of the Eagle)
Rahien Sorei (Dawn Runners)
Sha'mad Conde (Thunder Walkers)
Hama N'dore (Mountain Dancers)
Sovin Nai (Knife Hands)
Cor Darei (Night Spears)
Tain Shari (True Bloods)
Duadhe Mahdi'in (Water Seekers)
Mera'din (the Brotherless, described below)

To answer you Shadar, i'm not too sure. I saw this similar thread on page 50 or something and thought it would be fun to start one. Though when i read some quizzes there, they were so hard, you'd HAVE to research it.

My question: Who foretold Rand's birth and on what day?

Quote:
Mera'din (the Brotherless, described below)
Plenty of unknown authors of the Karaethon cycle on unknown dates.

And Gitara Moroso - the Keeper at the time - on the days that Rand was born and the 4 clans killed Laman and withdrew from Tar Valon.

well i had the last day of the Blood Snow in 978 NE as the birth of rand/the foretelling of his birth.

I'd say 3 Aes Sedai (moirraine, verin and an unnamed in Salidar). Though i'm pretty sure there's no definite number since at one festival (possibly in Salidar) he says he danced all night, including with several Aes Sedai.

How many times has Rand weilded his sword made of fire?

I don't remember Verin.
But I'm pretty sure he danced with Leanne and Myrelle at least in Salidar.

I'll let someone else tackle the question for a change.

As to the memory/research source for the Aiel societies- I just wanted to see if anyone could answer it. I could name 10 from memory I just don't remember Dawn RUnners or Mountain Dancers being mentioned. The rest I could spout off.

Hmmm - Rand Al Thor and his Flaming Sword of Fire...have to think about that one...

Sword of Fire:

* On the way to Tear, taking out some DF's (and then lining them up so they bow to him)
* In Rhuidean after going through the Aiel history, Couladin/Shaido attacks.

Another point when he woke up suddenly (in the waste) and summoned the fire sword only to realise it was Aviendah.

I also don't know ALL the occassions, i just wanted to see if anyone was devoted enough to actually remember every single occasion and number them.

How many husbands, lovers or paramours has Morgase had (that we know about from the books)?

OK - maybe not the Cowboys.

Next Question (TGS spoilers):

How did Sulin get from the attack on the Shaido in KOD, to being part of Team Rand in TGS?

Trick Question - that seems to be a major continuity error, unless someone can answer it here.

My real question: Name all the nobility Rand is related to by blood or marraige (in laws count).

Elayne Trakand

lulz

Ok:
Tigraine, Modrellein Mantear, etc
Luc, Galad (I don't think Rand has ever actually brought this up)
Not Taringail - his marriage to Tigraine had been annulled.

Janduin would count, to the extent that clan chiefs are the Aiel's replacement for nobility.

Can't think of any more?

Well he's also related to Lan, through Luc/Isam.
(btw; has anyone ever been able to figure out why the trollocs attacking emonds field had a charging call of "ISAM"?)
I think Rand is also distantly related to Moirraine...

Plus Julius, because i like being a smart-ass, your answer of Luc is wrong, he's not nobility. :P

How many Ghrolm did Rand kill in Trolloc-world with Hurin and Lanfear?

1. He's not related to Lan. Luc and Isam merging doesn't make Lan Rand's in-law - they didn't marry. Isam was commanding the Myrddraal and Trollocs in the Two Rivers.

2. He'd only be related to Moiraine Damodred if Tigraine and Taringail were still married. They weren't, as she was declared dead (setting off the Succession) - marriages are typically automatically annulled, and you could safely assume this is Andoran law (especially considering Morgase married Taringail; Elayne can only be Rand's wife, etc and so on, through the Aiel).

3. Luc is nobility, being the sole surviving scion of Mantear and Tigraine's brother.

4. He killed four.

Well talk about being shot down.

Quote:

BUT, i dont see how Isam can command an army. Isam is an assassin, assassins dont lead. And, if he did, why would he? What's in it for Isam, to lead an army of trollocs against a small village? I was always under the impression Padan Fain controlled the armies. Surely, there's some significance in that "ISAM" call... i'm sure it's going to bite us all in our unsuspecting arses.

He did because he was ordered to. Fain had left the DO's... service... by that point (he captured and tortured a Myrddraal), so I guess one of the Forsaken had ordered him to do it.

Have a look at tSR if you want to check it out. There's a line in there where, as Fain is leaving the Two Rivers, he thinks "Isam is a fool. He should've brought enough Trollocs to flay the Two Rivers" or something along those lines.
