It's not that they were second rate(which I'm going to object), It's basically his fighting style, how he'd counter-attack, evade, not just thoughtlessly attack like G90's did.

IIRC, Godzilla 90's spammed his Atomic Breath and rarely got into hand-to-hand combat.

Also, Zilla was a tactical fighter, he used his brain. Pretty good for an Iguana.

Yeah, second-rate. Care to prove to me how they weren't?

G90s "thoughtlessly" attacking? You expect a monster of G90s size and weight to dodge attacks that are going much faster then he is? He didn't dodge because he had the bulk and tough enough scales to withstand the majority of attacks thrown at him. And he obviously wasn't a melee fighter, like '55-'75 Goji.

Yeah, touche. I guess he's not really my favorite incarnation, then. But look at G2K, he was even more massive, and he ducked from a mach 4 charge.

Godzilla 2000 was 55 meters tall and weighed 25,000 tons. Godzilla 90s was 100 meters tall and weighed 60,000 tons.

I like Zilla and SOS Goji the best mainly because of their looks, not fighting style. Because they look more like animals rather than mutated behemoths.

Why the hell they decided to make masers the standard weapon against Kaiju in that series I'll never know.

No way is G2k bulkier than G90's. Even ignoring height and mass, Toho made a consious effort to streamline Godzilla's design for 2000, specifically to give him more manueverability. I think it's that wide neck that's misleading, it makes him look kinda squat. That and th largest fin protruding from much lower than it ever used to. It's a question of optics.
