Walkthrough movie question (Spolier)
SPOILER
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . In the movie they referenced a secret passage that was cut out and then someone started going on about Gary Gygax but it was cut off and edited. Is this the secret passage from outside the moathouse or something else ? |

I don't think so. There were several secret passages in the moat house (to the point that it was entirely possible to not find the boss).
I think the one they were talking about (since if IIRC, this happened on the stairs) involved a falling portculis that cut off retreat back up to the upper levels of the moathouse) the seceret passage in question allowed access to the mechanism to raise the portculis back up. When I get home I'll check the module and movie again and check. It could also be the passage from the ghoul lair to another part of the moat house dungeon. (which admittedly qualifies a bit better for the term passage rather than just secret door) Oh, a warning- very spoilerish. Highlight to read:
In the module, secret passages are very very important. *Very*. If Troika transfered some of them over to the CRPG, then there will be some endings that you won't see if you don't find certain secret doors.
|

SPOILER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
He's refering to a secret door that either hid the entire passage down (from lubash's room) or the secret door that hides a mechanism for controling a large iron grate, they go by it fast enough that I am not sure which he is refering , but those are the only 2 in that area.
|

There was indeed a hidden door which was taken out. After you defeat the ogre guard, Lubash, There was a sliding wall/door which concealed a long stairway to an even lower part of the moathouse. This door was taken out and is the one mentioned in the video.

I can see why they removed some of the secret doors.
2 reasons - A) if secret doors are done as in the infinity engine games, then there isn't much of a reason to include them ~ it was tougher to find secret doors in the old ascii program rogue B) if secret doors are hard to find (as they should be!

Very much so.
Some of the secret doors in the temple are literally game breaking. Oh, and its the double archway at the top of the stairs after the ogre that got changed. There originally was a pair of secret doors at the top of the stairs the party heads down in the video. Fighting Lubash should be fun too- particularly if he has an 3.5 equivalent to his original equipment.
Ogres with reach weapons are always fun
|
