Could be, but they should at least do some searching and verifying before making something available for preorder.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Clarification

The DVD-Rom Box with the giant Skaarj on it is the internal DVD plastic case, similar to what movies arrive in. This box is inside the metal box, which is the outer box that you will see when you buy the game.

Simple as that.

Yes, that much I understand. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as that.

One source says theres a CD and DVD SE version.
Another says theres a CD, DVD, and DVD SE version.
Now Atari Germany says there will be a CD, DVD, and DVD SE version with no gore.

That's whats confusing everyone.

But that still doesn't explain why there are no gadgets from the SE mentioned on any of the sites taking preorders. I somehow refuse to believe that the particular supplier simply didn't know about them because they are too significant to be omitted from the product description.

Hey everyone, I dropped in so I can help to end the confusion. So with no further ado, here's the situation. Currently there are going to be 3 versions of the game available (more or less), please let me explain.

1) 6CD version (main version for North America, rest of the world, Asia, and some parts of Europe)
2) DVD (Main version for Europe, Germany will be DVD only, not North America)
3) DVD Special Edition (w/bonus DVD and a headset, this should be available pretty much everywhere but in LIMITED QUANTITIES. I cannot discuss the amount we are creating so please don't ask)

I hope that clears thing up.

Also, we aren't kidding about the limited quantities, it's a special thing we put together for you folks, the hardcore Unreal fans. To ensure you get a Special Edition version, I would suggest that you pre-order at your local retailer, you know you are going to buy it, so might as well pre-order.

So to squash the confusion, there are 3 versions (6CD, DVD, and DVD SE), all 3 may or may not be available where you live, because that depends on where you live and your local retailers not Atari. And finally, Special Edition is ONLY available on PC-DVD in limited quatities.

I hope that helped.

Oh yeah, and DVD-SE is indeed in a big bad metal sleeve thingee, like Raffi said. The CD version however, has this really sweet printed cardboard thingee for your discs (with artwork and stuff, you'll see, plus a special tray for the Play disc). All the packing materials are TOP NOTCH this time.

See, Brownie, who was right then ?

Thanks a lot for the info, Gangrel, much appreciated.

But the problem is that NONE of UK's online retailers (let alone brick stores) has the SE in their ordering list...

THIS needs sorting out badly...

Gangrel, PLEASE, when you get to considering which UK's online retailer to choose, please pick Amazon.co.uk, their international shipping policy is probably the best around...

Thank you Gangrel. I have one more question and then I will close this thread:

Is it true that the german versions will be without gore and gibs with no option to set it to int in the ini this time?

Excellent! Finally cleared up.

My preorder for the normal DVD edition on Play.com stands tho, but the moment Amazon, Play, or CD-WOW has it it's getting cancelled.

Good to see this (mostly) cleared up. I'll still be mighty peeved if I can't find the SE anywhere in the UK though. I might keep my order from play.com for the DVD edition (assuming it turns out to not be the SE) and then sell it to someone for near retail price

Of course, that's if I get the SE at all.

I can't believe Play.com are doing the DVD version for £18

Superb.

Rather choked about not being able to find the SE version anywhere, though.

I'll keep a peeper on this thread though, just in case.

Thanks gangrell !!

Now we just need one of these online retailers to 100% CONFIRM they will be selling the SE here and i'll be all over it

But unfortunately none of them still seem to have a clue.

r u sure my local retailer is accepting pre-orders????
if not u know any (UK)online retailers accepting pre-orders??

thats the problem those hardcore Unreal fans
couldnt pre-order it and are afraid those limited quantites are sold out before they can get their hands on it
i dont think those hardcore fans mind paying alittle extra for it
its just they cant find it

and with u saying they r in "LIMITED QUANTITIES" in bold capital letters i think those hardcore fans are even more afraid

shhhhhh im not 1 of those hardcore fans

Thanks Gangrel for enlightening us.

Hey I don't think there is any reason to panic. We are still about a month away from the release. I'm sure when one of us spots an online retailer giving SE preorders one of us will start a thread here on ina informing all the uk/europe people of it's existance.

From the very start the 'limited/special edition' was mentioned they've said it would be a true limited edition.

Then again ... so far I've never seen any true 'limited' editions for games or dvd's. But it does tend to be rather difficult to get them after release if you don't preorder (try finding the Limited edition of the 1st LotR-movie for example ... ).

i remember Zelda Wind Waker limited edition
thought the LE version of it was really limited
but they were still selling it half a year later
think the normal version was more limited then the LE version cause i can only find the LE in the 1st half year it was released

i agree, and i dont think anyone would have a problem apart from the fact the SE is like no where to be seen for people to pre order where as in the US and parts of EU now you can...

GO SE 4 UK!

Then you need to get your marketing guys in Europe to get off their backsides then, because when I search Amazon UK, there is only the one entry for UT2004, presumably the CD version.

There's no way to order the DVD version (SE or normal) from one of the biggest online retailers in Europe - it's costing you sales and preorders.

I'm like you lot. I scoured the online sites for the SE and it simply is completely unavailable anywhere in the UK for pre-order. Best bet for us is probably Ebay. Everywhere lists either one or two versions with no mention of the SE at all or even an acknowledgement that one exists.

Well, in this instance LIMITED EDITION = 20,000 copies for the entire Europe.

VERY LIMITED EDITION, I'd say...

Scoshi, I'm gonna keep an eye out on the SE, so I might do the job, but I don't know if you notice the PM (many people have notification on an incoming PM turned off )

Except with lots of complaints about the high cost of the normal version ... I wonder how many people really are going to want to pay that much money for a 'special edition' that requires a lot of effort on your part as well.

ie : the less people actually know about it the better the chance of getting it is.
