Lack of multiplayer is a temporary issue with Unreal2.

Legend are currently reviving their XMP design for mulitplayer and it will be released as a FREE downloadable add-on for people who own Unreal2.

OMG.... I actually agree with DW, on most eveything he said.

*EXCEPT*

The Music. Are you on drugs again? WHAT music?

The Original Unreal had (and still has) the Finest soundtrack of any First Person Shooter made. Nothing finer than killing Skaarj to the melow new-age music waifing through the hallways and rooms of a Napali castle or temple.

The music set the mood for every level, cresendoing perfectly with the action.

Original Unreal also came with all the music on a CD. I *love* that CD and play it alot, even now.

Unreal II didn't come with ****.

Unreal II was said to be the best first person shooter ever - Legend said so itself. I played the game, and found that beneath the pretty graphics lies a weak storyline, an even worse execution of that storyline, very mediocre gameplay, poor sound (a machinegun you can use all the time, but that sounds as dangerous as my mobile phone?), little to no replayability, bad physics (with that I mean your own movement) and... Well, let's just say I'm not at all happy with Unreal II as a "best FPS ever".

The good points about the game were definitely the defense missions, the graphics (although, for such bad performance they'd better have been good), *thinks hard*... Err... There's gotta be something else about Unreal II that was good... Ah! The hype. I got all excited about the game, and consider that a good thing. And I suppose the ragdoll physics (which are better done in UT2003, but present nonetheless) could also go into this department.

If I'd have to rate Legend's Game - The Awakening, I'd rate it some 80%, tops. The game can be enjoyed. However, I'm not rating Legend's Game - The Awakening. I'm rating Unreal II - The Awakening, as a sequal to Unreal. Also, I'm keeping in mind the promises Legend made. In thát light, I'd give it a 50% or something. The game completely and utterly fails as the sequal to one of the best first person shooters ever, and it fails to deliver what Legend said it would.

As for the multiplayer: UT2004 is coming, there's a ton of singleplayer games coming this year alone to keep us busy, and I'd personally rather NOT touch Unreal II - The Awakening. I consider it a shame Legend is still working on this title.

By the way, when's Unreal II gonna be released? Please tell me The Awakening was just an intro or something.

The only problems I had with U2 was the length, the LONG load times, the crappy performance and the mandatory cut scenes.

Yay! XMP!

I agree with Lambda about the story though. There were a few parts where I was like "OMFG NO WAY!" (like the big 'event' back on earth when you get to the top of the hill/base after the sniper mission).
But for the most part, it was just cheesy. Whats the story again? Running around the galaxy to collect ancient alien artifacts that combine to reveal a *gasp* super-weapon? Wow, never saw that one coming!

A few of the levels really rocked though. My personal favorites are the last level, (navigating that ship gone crazy was fuggin cool!) and one of the early levels where you have to rescue the downed marines in that forest. I love that level because the first time I played it, I had my speakers cranked. The rain falling all around me sounded cool, but when that first blast of thunder hit me, my subwoofer shook my whole friggin room and made me jump like 10 feet in the air . And running through the rainy/stormy forest with your marine buddies while being attacked from all sides was great fun too. The only thing that brought the whole level down was the dumb-as-a-post marine AI. Funny, that seems to bring a lot of levels down

Aida was a definite upside too.
Kind of unobservant though. I mean, most women would be pretty pissed if you just stared at their boobs for an entire mission briefing.

Sorry, Avalon.
I always thought of it as Earth because its the TC HQ, and... well it looks just like earth! Rolling green hills, lots of water (big oceans)... basically identical to earth.

Anywho... its at the end of that mission.

That reminds me..
Why is there always planets in sci-fi games that are like a planet covered in forest or jungle or water? I think it's impossible to be so.. The planet just cant have 100% jungle! I think It would have jungle only if it's at the best distance from the nearest sun which gives it energy. The planet rolls, the planet moves... It must have polar like Earth. Earth has maybe 5% jungle or so. It's just stupid that game developers make a planet FULL of jungle.
