Onslaught described in Six Pictures (UPDATED)

UPDATED - Linking to this page

I have set up a short redirect URL if you want to link to this page via the in-game chat or through a bind:
Basic Onslaught Gameplay

Of course, there is a little more to Onslaught than this — I haven’t described any game-play tactics at all. But these pictures at least show which nodes can be claimed, repaired, and attacked; that the power-core cannot be healed; how vehicles can be repaired, and that you should wait for team-mates to jump in to multi-person vehicles.

Linking nodes and Teleporting

I this one is not as simple as I would like it to have been, but it has a funky animation thing going on:

It also has my email-address in it in case you want to ***** at me.

. . .

Any suggestions for improving these pictures are welcome, but I would like to keep the information as basic as possible. Hopefully this is the final version.

You can also aim the secondary link gun at the base of the node. I find this more useful because I can circle-strafe around it and see if any feet are approaching me. Then I can pause and see if it's an enemy or not.

When you aim at the symbol at the top, it's impossible to do something like that.

I also like the base better for charging a node, and also for destroying a node (especially with flak or when in a tank).

Yep, I was aware of that. You can also shoot the entire shield if the node is locked.

But I just wanted to keep things simple.

Assault would be too map specific, I think.

Not if you simply explain the interface, "Blue triangles are where you want to go," "The Arrow in the top center always points to the next objective," "To cap an objective, stay in the area until the bar empties," "Some objectives reset when someone isn't actively capping it," "Crispix stays crunchy in milk," etc.

That single picture, however, makes me of the opinion that this thread should be stickied, or collectively strapped to all newbies heads, whichever would be easier.

Looks good Brownstone. Almost looks like a comic book.

Additional episodes could include Node to Node teleportation; How to use the respawn map; Why the far corner nodes with the Tanks are important; Why you cannot attack a node unless it is linked; etc. I know you are trying to keep it simple, but maybe you could have progressive episodes where concepts gradually get more advanced?

Nice suggestions; I might just do a mini-series with teleporting and such.

you dont need a picture for that. if you have a gun, just go and find another one, once you have em all, try and sell em on e-bay, and if anyone stands in your way, just happily give them one of your guns and they'll leave you alone(hopefully).

Excellent. I think a further episode should explain the point of onslaught; it should make use of the map to explain the connect the dots fashion of attacking the core, and how a team can make the connections in more way than one, as well as the whole locked/unlocked nodes thing. It would be awesome to see a miniseries, eventually covering most everything. Awesome stuff man, this'll surely aid people new to the game.

Congrats on making a simple and easy to understand guide to ONS. Unlike some people, you made it without sounding like an arrogent and condescending *****. Are you going to make one for U][:XMP?

Building a follow-up on top of previous technology can allow for the designers and artists to focus on making fun scenarios instead of wrestling with broken tools on a daily basis!

This picture should be made into one of those ut2k4 intro screens, or the loading ones for onslaught.
