NOW AVAILABLE: Night On Bald Mountain (Hi-Resolution)

Following suit with Bitter Jeweler, I've made a hi-resolution version of "Night On Bald Mountain" (version 1.3.2) available for download for a limited time (until I need that webspace for new videos). The hi resolution video is encoded at 640x480 and sampled at 3 Mbps. The total size of the download is a whopping 146 MB! However, those of you with broadband should be able to do that relatively quickly.

Anyway, here are the links:

Night On Bald Mountain (24.4 MB)
Night On Bald Mountain - Hi Resolution (146 MB)

=============================================
original post

Well, it's 4am and I've finally finished my latest video: "Night On Bald Mountain." This one is inspired by the "Night On Bald Mountain" sequence in Walt Disney's "Fantasia." Clocking in at 6:53 (time is for version 1.1) in length, this is my longest video yet--and most of that time is the ride itself!

If you are familiar with "Fantasia," this ride hopefully will make sense to you. For those unfamiliar with the movie, the "Night On Bald Mountain" sequence is a classic portrayal of good versus evil. An ominous mountain comes to life when darkness falls, with a demonic figure practically conducting a band of ghosts and goblins in their celebration on the mountain. Suddenly, church bells chime and the light of day begins to break. The demon of the mountain retreats, as a religious procession winds its way through a forest, over a lake and to a cathedral nestled in the forest.

This video is more about the ride itself, although there are a few movie-making gimmicks thrown in. Also, a huge thanks to Feutcha for introducing the "false track" trick--I copied the idea for this ride. For those who are curious, here are the stats on the ride:

This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version

In case the image isn't clear enough:

Excitement: 8.62 (Very High)
Intensity: 6.93 (High)
Nausea: 3.89 (Medium)

EDIT: Okay, I swear I'm done now...I've uploaded version 1.1. Not a big difference for those of you who already downloaded the video. I just wanted to exploit the day-to-night/night-to-day transition a bit more, so I added a few more scenes that transition from day to night in the beginning.

EDIT #2: Okay, so that will teach me to swear (see above edit). Here's version 1.2--now with fire effects! Bald Mountain and the demon now seem more "hellish," which is a good thing for Bald Mountain! The fire effect may be a bit over the top (prepare yourself for 3rd degree burns), though, so your feedback is appreciated. I do have a Plan B ready which will make the fire a bit more subtle.

EDIT #3: Happy new year's eve, everyone. Okay, I think I'm going to make this the final release, whether it pleases everyone or not. I'm happy with how it turned out. I didn't end up using the fog effect for smoke or alternative fire effects mainly due to a lack of space to put them in the park. However, I think the final version turned out well--certainly improved over the original release (thanks to n747 and Milkdud for their suggestions/assistance). Version 1.3.1 removed the light glow during the initial chain lift. I want to say that I'm officially done, but, well, you know...

Anywyay, here it is one more time:

Your done! Yay!

Ok my friend, you have just raised thebar several notches.
You have an incredible sense of timing and style!
You are the King of Rollercoaster story telling.
It is beyond me, how you build your coasters to fit the music so well.

I loved how we are approaching the Demon, and fully expecting to ride past it, then Whaaaaaaoooo! we get dropped!

Simply amazing Mikey!

Stunning, Beautiful, surpising, polished!

Keep up the excellent work!

Words alone can not express the greatness of that video. I give you a standing ovation!

Was that reverb in the glass church? Masterful!

The syncronization was superb, the editing was superb, the ride, setting and cinematography was suberb. Everything about it was superb.

Wow...thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement!

As for the park itself--I will be making it available for download soon. However, the village is actually incomplete still...I only built enough for the video footage. As soon as I complete the rest of the village, I'll post the link to download the park.

Oh man I've been waiting for your next movie!!!!! That was unbelievable! What a way to tell a story lol. I really loved how you added the small scenes of the demonic creature while riding the coaster, very disneyish. I've seen Fantasia and that reminded me alot of it. /gives Mikeyca a 5 minute standing ovation.

/bow, I am unworthy! /bow

Oh and in the beginning of the movie, I'm still stumped at how you move the camera like that! Scrolling around the town and stuff. How do you do that!

PS: on the long chain lift I couldn't help but notice you did practically the same thing I did with River of Nightmares. (most likely coincedince)

DAMMIT, I have to reboot my computer before I can watch because I still can't figure out or fix this crazy problem with slow FPS in video playback. It cuts in after 20 seconds of playback then stays like that. In every player I've got; Windows media, Real player, Winamp, and even QuickTime (in a .mov file)
It slows down while audio is still good or a get a green overlay. BUT, then Dr Watson pops up, (opening the file or showing details in the left column) "Oh, you’ve got a problem, but I can’t help you fix it, I'll just debug and crash"

I'm not a computer noobie at all; In fact I've fixed everything pushed under my nose without re-mastering any system. But this time... I don't know. I won’t bother giving details because I gonna take it to a proper forum for these kinds of things, but just to let u know... The first 20 seconds look promising.

EDIT: WW, that’s 1 long ride, much longer than I ever expected. Fantastic the cinematic rides, best type I think, and it's been done so well here... There’s so much to say... But I’m running out of time, so I'll be brief. I can tell a lot of work has gone into this design and film producing and its left me with a large sense of satisfaction, RCT3 can do great things and it's this type of video and many others that’s kept some of us playing, especially me. It’s the choice of icons I face on my desktop, of many games. This, has made me double click the RCT3 icon, so... oh, it’s loading...
Ok... (ALT + TAB)

P.S. Cut off there a sec, Winamp pulled through on my crisis back there by the way.

Wow, that's a great video! The editing was fantastic, great job.

(Althought I think you shouldn't have said that it was a tilt coaster, cause I knew what was going to happen and would've been surprised... )

Nonetheless, 10/10!

I just watched it a second time Gosh thats an awsome video!!!
How did you time the ride for it to become daylight towards the end? Was it 2 clips merged together? And again, I LOVE the way you move the camera in the beginning. It's like a real life movie. The church bells in the beginning is so awsome too. And thats SO cool how the lady's voice echoes when inside the glass room!

Thanks! I thought I'd never finish it, so I'm pleased that people are enjoying it!

Yup, you guessed the "secret." I recorded the coaster cam in night mode up until the coaster enters the forest, then I recorded the coaster cam again in day mode from the end of the graveyard. I cross-faded them together and voila--gradual change from night to day!

Thanks...once again, the Attract Sequence Editor saves the day. It's buggy but effective!

Ah, I'm glad people are noticing the reverb added to the soundtrack when the train enters the glass cathedral...it's one of those subtle things I decided to add as the project progressed.

Thanks for all your positive comments!
