[sticky plz]: unofficial bug/save support

hey everyone,

thanks for being patient and taking the time to post on these boards. this thread is in regards to specific gameplay problems and links to your savegames that show these problems.

please understand that there can be no "official" word (well, from me at least ) about patch support yet, but rest assured, we want to release a patch just as much, if not more, as you guys/gals! ...we've definitely been waiting for word much longer... *sigh* ...to borrow a phrase, there are forces at work beyond control

in any case, although i can foresee this thread quickly getting out of hand, please try to keep this thread mostly for actual bug posts/saves, *bumps* (until we can get a sticky), and followups and clarifications as edits. this thread is not for installation/compatibility issues, unfortunately

i will post msgs as soon as specific bugs are addressed/fixed (i will refer to posts by date/time/poster name). the cleaner this thread is, the easier it will be for us to look at specific problems.

this is asking a lot, i realize, but the usefulness of this thread will be entirely up to you all, if you are willing to take the time to host a savegame and link to it, and post about it

no detailed "bug report" is necessary, but a short description and a link to a .ZIP file containing the appropriate savegame files is much appreciated!

savegame files are: (.tfaf, .tfai, .gsi, .jpg) in your "toee\bin\modules\toee\save" directory.

fisk, your crash bug has been fixed. thanks so much. your workaround for now is to unequip Spugnoir's Dagger of Venom.

again, this has to be labelled as unofficial support - there may or may not be immediate responses, and we cannot release patched executables or anything. but if a problem is fixed, i will report it on this thread.

Weapon Finess with magical weapons?

I've got one for you
My Ranger (Jorganthalas, Ranger 2 / Rogue 2) has Two Weapon Style (from Ranger 2) and the feat Weapon Finess (Shortsword).

I picked up two Shortswords +1 from the (dead) vendor/thieves in Hommlet, but they don't count as a Shortsword for the purposes of the feat Weapon Finess (Shortsword).

ie, with two nonmagical Shortswords equipped my attack bonus is +6/+6. With the two Shortswords +1 equipped, it is +4/+4 (with 21 [+5] dex vs. 15 [+2] str).

I don't see how to attach a file, but I can zip it up and e-mail a save to whomever.

Make it so when monsters are a certain distance away, we can use the C key to exit combat.

Many players have encountered creatures "in walls" and they are in combat with them but they can't hit them so they have to reload.

I have seen the monsters in the walls, but so far they haven't initiated combat, so I can just walk away.

The problem I'm having is that the movies crash (lock up) my pc and I have to reboot. The intro movie plays fine, as does the movie that plays when you first see the Temple, but so far these others have crashed:

TUT-with_Ariel.bik
New_LE_Final_0.bik
Hommlet-LE.bik

I can watch these with RADTools' Bink player just fine, though.

I've got:
WinXP Pro
Intel Pent.4, 1.7Ghz
256Mb Ram
32Mb integrated video (Intel)
All drivers up to date, DX9

Hi.

Can't seem to post my game either, but I had the same issue with weapon finesse. When I switched to using magical weapons, my ranger started to use her strength modifier instead of her dexterity modifier (I confirmed this in the die roll history). This, of course, lowered her attacks.

I don't have a save game to report here, but anyone can reproduce this (I reported this in the other bug thread):

Masterwork armor makes armor check penalties worse, not better. A chain shirt gives you an armor check penalty of -2. A masterwork chain shirt should give you an armor check penalty of -1. Instead, it gives you an armor check penalty of -3.

Magic armor further compounds the armor check penalties, and does so by whatever the bonus to the armor is. You use +3 chainmail and it gives you an armor check penalty of -8. Regular chainmail has an armor check penalty of -5. +3 chainmail SHOULD have an armor check penalty of, um, well, I don't actually know, either -4 or -2, can't find the exact rule. All I know is it SHOULDN'T be -8.


When creating magic arms and armor when you click CREATE, it doesn't take you out of the screen, it just takes your money/experience. So, you could end up hitting the button again, and losing even more money/experience, though it will only create 1 item of course.

When crafting wonderous objects, the ones that would raise Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma are all bugged, with their spell requirements being: SPELL_REQ and they cannot be created.

The druid spell "Produce Flame" is absolutely broken, it can be used, in the same turn on the same enemy as many times as you want to click the left mouse button.

I've also had where the monsters in walls just accumulate, which leads to an interesting situation when they become "freed".

The gnolls would attack the brigands which would attack the Ogre.... but mainly 3/4 of them would attack men :\ I'll try to find a savegame when I've access to the game.

1. When sleeping in the moathouse with a 'yellow tent', wandering monsters wake the party but appear in walls, not in the room, and do not attack. Clicking on them occasionally causes them to 'pop' into the room and attack.

Monsters in the wall bug only seems to happen when you rest and you're close to a wall-type structure. I guess it's not checking to see what already in that spot when it clones monsters.

2. On the second level of the Moathouse (Zombies/Green Slimes/Ogre), the secret door in the pillar is click-able and shows its animation, but does not produce a bleu link giving access to the level beneath.

No kidding.

WOULD SOMEBODY AT ATARI PLEASE GET OFF THEIR ASSES AND MODERATE THE BOARD, PLEASE? ONE STICKY is all we're asking, for christsakes.

This has to be the worst support for a game I've ever seen. They can't take 2 minutes to make a simple sticky? I don't think I'll ever buy anything with the Atari logo on it again. This is totally unexcusable. They have hung Troika out to dry, it appears.

To be fair, this post has only been here for like 2 hours, it's quite possible nobody from Atari knows it's here...

As for a bugs...

1. Uhm.. Tab highlighting seems inconsistent

2. ID doesn't ID an item, it just gives it a name that may or may not be useful. (I refuse to accept that's a design decision... paying the 100gp? Sure... but not actually serving any function whatsoever? Nope. Don't buy it.)

3. When I started the game the first time, made my party, opened the combat window, then opened the conversation window, I got a CTD... possibly because no conversations had ever occured so the buffer was uninitialized?

4. No apparent way to take 20 while picking a lock, so have to keep retrying until success... (it took like 40 tries, needed exactly a 20 to succeed...)

5. Party formation is all messed up when first entering an area. (ok, not really a *bug*, but when combat occurs when you first enter an area before you can get your wiz out of the lead, it becomes quite frustrating, and for no reason... you really wouldn't expect the wizard to be leading the way anywhere....)

No save files needed for any of them.

CTD

I'm getting a CTD when clicking on the Load Game from the initial main menu screen. No error messages no nothing and it has persisted beyond reboots.

Let me know if you need me to post my machines config.

Don't know if these have been reported yet ...

1. Can't create a cleric of St Cuthbert with the Strength Domain (it doesn't appear on the menu).

2. Monsters are not provoking attacks of opportunity when drinking potions (had a bugbear flanked in the Moathouse; he drank two healing potions on successive rounds with no AoO -- Ironman mode, if it matters). Of course, maybe this is a feature, not a bug .

my save

This save is right before I level from 4th to 5th. My ranger cannot summon an animal companion but if I press the cross to lvl him, I get my companion. Also it shows my paladin with an 18 chr only getting +2 to her saves from divine grace.
And of course my mage can't craft any int chr modifiying items because of the error with the preqs.

a couple pretty major quest bugs (all of these were done with a LG party)

Mona, in Nulb:

[spoiler=black]Quest Name: Mona's Crystal Ball

It seems that if you pay to free serena, or even tell mona that you plan on paying to free serena you will no longer be able to give mona the orb. I assume this also keeps you from completing the pirate's toothache quest[/spoiler]

Romag, in the earth temple/Rentsch, in Nulb:

[spoiler=black]Quest Name: Romag 2: a Note for Rentsch

I chose to make Rentsch and Wat hate each other, and Rentsch was the one who died. later I received a quest from Romag to deliver a letter to Rentsch. Rentsch is dead and there is no way to tell Romag about it, rendering the quest impossible to complete[/spoiler]

Black Jay, the teamster's son and the Teamster in Hommlet

[spoiler=black]I talked to the kid and intimidated him to confess to planting the hemlock. He gave the spiel about his family being threatened and said he wouldn't do it again, but he didn't leave, so I talked to him again. He had all the same dialogue options from before, so this time I ignored the intimidation options and just told him to go home. then I went inside and told Black Jay about it and finished the quest etc etc. Then I went to the Teamster's house and talked with him about his son. The only option I had was to tell the father that the boy told me nothing; there was nothing about his family being threatened. This may still be working as intended, though

also, for the quest "A Ring for Black Jay" Black Jay talks about his family being killed and says "I'm Black Jay now". but his wife's wedding ring is inscribed with something like "from Black Jay" what[/spoiler]

Here's a save with the creature-in-wall bug showing. I rested in this room, the lizards appears, the one in the wall can't be targetted, attacked, or moved.

I ended up having to hike (in combat movement), a long way away and eventually got out of combat.

When do we get our checks from Atari for doing QA for them? Nevermind, I'll just send an invoice!

Here is a list of known bugs I have found (if i can remember them):

WarAxe cannot be equipped with shield even with exotic weaponry feat.

Power attack is either the maximum amount or 0. The slider doesnt allow any other choices.

Weapon Finesse is the 3.0 version not the 3.5 version.

I cannot add an enchantment to an item I have already made. I tried to add shock to my +2 warhammer (which i made earlier). The interface allowed me to add the shock ability, rename the item and docked me the XP to upgrade it but did not perform the upgrade.

War hammers are receiving 1.5 strength calculation for damage even when used with a shield.

Tab doesnt work most of the time to find interfaceable items.

When I have a cohort who wants a share I have to click on every fallen body twice before I can get at their stuff. Once so I can see the cohort message and again to get to the stuff.

Way points are not working.

As an aside here are a few things I think would really add to the game:

Auto heal when rest.

Map that auto-centers on party.

One right click on a monsters money treasure should pick it all up, not one click for each money type.

Allow one of the smiths to be comissioned to make any normal or masterwork item in the game. It is extremely disappointing to get to the end of the game and realize you can never ever find an item like the one your character has to enchant.

Bugged Finesse

Major bug with weapon finesse. My 8th level Rogue has weapon finesse Shortsword , he also has a 24 dex . His total listed to-hit is +13 ( which is correct), when I wield a +1 shortsword my to-hit drops to +9. When I hold the "h" key and click the to-hit box it says "+2 to-hit strengh , +6 to-hit level , +1 enhancement. If I wield the regular shortsword and click the to-hit box its says " +7 to -hit dex ( finesse ), +6 to-hit level.

It seems ToEE doesnt recognize a magic Shortsword as still being a Shortsword for the purpose of finesse

EDIT: Here is a link the to save game. Notice I have equiped the +1 Shortsword in main hand and normal one in off haned. I have Two Weapon Fighting feat and prime attack is +8 and off hand is +11. If you H-click on prime it will show you that the +1 short sword is using strength no my Finesse Short Sword.

similar problem here. when i rest in a small room with the door shut, sometimes (70% of the time) monsters will spawn in the walls, and if i happen to run into some monsters nearby and defeat them it still thinks im in a battle.
i also would like to see an easier work around for "running away".
i had to run from the monsters in the wall that were doing nothing.

really sorry, dont know how to post zip.

The game just won't load up on my ME machine. I did everything that Atari Tech support said to do with drivers and critical updates, scandisk, and defraging and still no dice.

Atari Tech support is as useful as a Avon Lady in the Taliban.

Well, here are a few bugs I have noticed, though for some reason I can't post my game. *sighs* I apologize.


1.) Item creation has many errors. Many items have a prerequesite of SPELL_NONE.

You also create wands, at least, at the highest caster level possible. We should be able to set the caster level from the highest 'we' can cast, to the lowest. For instance, my level 5 wizard should not be able to create a wand that produces 6 magic missle. This only costed her 30 exp and a little over 100 gold pieces. Seems highly unbalanced.

I can create a wand of spells I do not know, though the only one I can recall at the moment is Blindness/Deafness.

Hide from undead has the SPELL_NONE prerequesite for a wand, and I'm sure there are others, but it's a big list and I coud not check them all.


2.) Several spells and effects produce nothing. Detect magic being one of them, which I have tested by directing the cone toward an NPC and character whom I know posess magical items. Detect evil for paladins I hear works the same.


3.) Item details/identification. I'm sure you are aware of this, but it's so incredibly confusing, as well as irritating, I had to post it for myself.


4.) Summoning spells, are they supposed to take up a full round worth of action? I.E. You cannot even move when you cast them unlike other spells? Perhaps so, but doesn't seem right to me.


5.) Produce flame, if cast, and then you do not move, will continue to let you cast repeatedly. I don't even know the 3.5 description for it since the game lacks in-game details, as well as the manual, but this does not seem correct.


6.) Many spells are listed as belonging to the wrong schools, such as Burning Hands being listed as an evocation spell, when I'm almost positive it is still a transmutation spell, just as it was in 3.0.


7.) I simply cannot believe the following is not a bug, but if any creature or character goes behind say, a wall, that is blocking your personal view of them, they become naked and unarmed. They are still armed and clothed technically, but visually they are not. It's a very bad graphics issue (or bug if it is one).


8.) Encumberment is horrible. It seems to have been lessened somewhere along the lines to the point where my cleric with a strength of 14 cannot carry a heavy mace, scale mail, large steel shield, and a crossbow without becoming encumbered. I'm afraid to find out what full plate will do, he won't be able to move at all I imagine.


That's all I can remember at this hour, but there are many more.
