Oh, nice indeed! The american issue I gather? And more importantly... what's in the preview?

I believe it is supposed to be a walkthru of the Moathouse filled with "Director's Commentary" style dialog from Huy, Sean, and Craig. From what I understand you may urinate with laughter if you listen to it. I have not yet had that pleasure, but I assure you I'm on my way to the newsstands now with my Portable Urinal.

It starts out with the Atari logo, then a few brief glimpses of the intro, followed up by gameplay narrarated by a few of the guys from Troika. It's the american issue, & unless there's multiple covers, it has the Doom 3 marine & Gordon from Halflife 2 on the cover. There's also a 1 page preview in the issue.

Wow, thanks for the heads up! Good thing, too. I had the issue, and if you didn't let me know, I would have never known.

For those who don't have/can't get the issue, heres a breakdown:

Its basically a walkthrough with a low level party. A couple of the Troika programmers and artists explain things as they go through. Huy seemed to like to comment on how huge the monsters were and how cool everything was for every single encounter.

The encounters were actually pretty cool, however. I especially liked the frogs, and how they could use a ranged attack grapple with their tongues, and swallow you the next turn. The encounters have a nice quick pace. Those who were afraid of the turn-based combat being too slow can rest easy.

I have to say that the graphics look spectacular. All the models look good and have very fluid animations. I said on the Bioware boards once that if a developer were to implement cloaks that looked good and didn't have clipping problems, that I would be impressed. Well... I am impressed. The backgrounds are Infinity Engine quality, only there are lighting effects that make them seem more 3d-like. For instance, the fog of war is based on line of sight rather than a radius around your character. Very cool.

And at the end of the movie: "Thanks for watching, guys. Hope you enjoy the game, it comes out in September."

So are we gonna get a September release...? That would rock. I had pretty much resigned myself to late October.

Those magazines (and the content on the CD I would gather) is done about 3 months prior to the magazine coming out, from what the editors of CGW say (I imagine it is the same for most computer game mags). So certainly the game could indeed have been delayed since then.

Regardless, if all I have seen from my geeze.. I guess 18 years or so of computer gaming is standard for the biz, expect it not in September.. or October, but maybe November.

Really.. I will be PLEASED if it comes out in October. I very much doubt we'll see it in September. I would be willing to stake someone else's life on that in fact!

Another thing I noticed was that critical hits get a special combat animation. One of those hits resulted in a very squishy bandit death.

Very cool, another reason to blow more of my money, lol. I'll probably toss the mag in the garbage without even looking at it.

hehe, yeah, i got the role of "omigod lolololol cool!", not that i minded

anyways, we ourselves haven't seen this final cut, i'm kinda curious how it turned out, because we did a couple of "takes", and they mishmashed them together (i'm assuming).

Is that Craig as in Matchett? As I need a last name for my news post over at EoT, I thought I'd ask. The other two there's no misstaking though...

Huy, you are a natural at your "new job" it seems!

Do we know if this movie is going to make it either online or into another publication? I only ask because my chances of getting an American Issue of a magazine that I believe also comes out in a localised version here is very slim...

Street Date?

Does anyone have info on when this issue will be in stores? I'm guessing the folks that have the issue and CD are subscribers, is there a street date yet?

I went to the nearest Borders to buy the mag and they didn't even have it... Just one copy of an old issue with a vampire on front and no plastic cover.

Well, I got my DVD that came with the PC Gamer. It has the demo, but guess what the one file I can't get off the DVD is? That's right! The only one I really wanted... :sigh:

It's a 100 Mb .mpg, and I'd really like it if someone would post a link to this file somewhere. Maybe Troika can host it in their files section? Whatever the case, I can't wait to see it!

Not sure when it came out, but it was in newsstands here in Iowa. It *must* be everywhere else by now.

On a side note, it was AWESOME and had lots of cool details I didn't know and some fun stuff about the map they were playing on and such, but for a 100meg mpq file the quality was pretty bad. Pixelated to the point where you couldn't read any of the text. I was viewing it under WMP Series 9. *shrug*

Good stuff, love the frogs, scared of the crawfish.

like.. who is on the cover?
Is the cd version or the DVD version?
What month is it?
What is the full name of the publication?

Thanks all.
