[WEAPON] Personal Ion Cannon

This is the first of the two super-weapons I plan to do.

Here's an extract from the readme:

The PIC is in no way inferior to its orbital counterpart, delivering the same 2TW of power to the same devastating effect. It comes complete with variable zoom scope, self-adjusting shoulder rest and a smart carry-case.

Ion Cannon are very sensitive to movement whilst firing. To prevent disruption, the PIC uses a gravitational stabilizer to hold itself and the wielder perfectly still during the firing sequence.

Hmm... I think it's just me, but I find the not-being-able-to-fire-while-moving thing is pretty inconvenient. You'll have to stay perfectly still for quite some time, and you can't shoot the Cannon while in the air or underwater... Oh well, the story that goes along with it would explain it.

Sometimes, the beam doesn't explode on target either. This happens when you try to shoot it in close range. (Why would Ishoot an Ion Cannon at point blank range? Because it's funnier that way! )

And in some cases the explosion is in the right spot, but is slightly below the terrain/floor and the explosion doesn't kill anybody.

But damn, somebody make a server with this right NOW!

Okay Evil...That's it! I have just about had it! Here is yet another incredibly c00l weapon that I am going to have to cram into the Dead Cat Invasion maps....I mean where in the heck am I supposed to put all of this stuff????...

BTW - I am working on cliffs and overhangs for the ceiling Sentinels on the terrain maps now...Great suggestion!

I just wish I could configure any weapon to replace it with.

Mr.Evil. Nice work on all of your weapons. i check them all out and the screens look ace, but are you gonna but them in a pack?it would make it easier, and the way you get these things done looks like there'd be enough for a nice weapons pack.

Quick question, can you use all if your weapons at once while playing the game, or can you only use one at a time?Just had thought of using your weapons and zencoders together

Mr. Evil ever though of doing a Rail Gun?i don't mean a cr@p little thing from Quake 3, i mean the beasty thing from Metal Gear Soild 2. If you haven't seen it, its like a instagib Lighting Gun with a slight explosive radius, i urge you to make this weapon, it would rock! But i'd say the rail gun needs time to charge, to make the weapon more balanced. If your interested Mr.Evil i can get you screens if you like, i'd jsut love to see a weapon like that in ut2003, make it happen Mr.Evil

I thought I would make it hold you still because it lacks some of the disadvantages of the Ion Cannon/Painter.

I'm not bothered about it not aiming straight at close range because by the time you notice you're dead anyway

Shooting below terrain I will have to look at and fix...

I will put them all together when I have enough weapons to replace all the standard UT2003 weapons. It will be called 'Weapons of Evil' (WoE), as I announced on my website a while ago.

You can use any combination of any weapons you want using SwitchArsenal: http://users.adelphia.net/~csdgames/SwitchArsenal/ or any other weapon replacement mutator. Indeed, as you have been contemplating, I often see my weapons and ZenCoder's together on servers. Also, with the WoE mod I shall include a couple of mutators for replacing all the weapons with mine.

I am planning to do a rail-gun-like weapon, but exactly what form it will take I do not yet know. It is the last weapon I have to do, as all the others are either released already of only waiting for models (which usually takes some time).

damn evil seriously you have so many weapons youve released you should make an official EvilTFC mod with all teh weapons so far. Just like i said in the other post

"You should take all the models you've released so far and slap them into a team class mod, like for say EvilTFC. "

little problem

I noticed that you cannot choose the PIC replacer mutator and the Sentinel replacer from a dedicated server web admin window as they are both under the arena heading Any fix for this

Not at the moment. For the final version of the Sentinel I will split the SentinelReplacer mutator in two: One for replacing power-ups and one for replacing weapons, so you will be able to replace power-ups without interfering with weapon replacement mutators. If you want to be able to do it right now, you can use SwitchArsenal (http://users.adelphia.net/~csdgames/SwitchArsenal/), but that will limit you to replacing weapons only.

Hm. But now it'll be completely unplayable on DM-HydroCanyon. Unless you stay at the top ground area, but there's not a lot of that and it's easier to get killed up there than down there.

Note: It has been brought to my attention that you need at least patch v2225 for the PIC to work.

I know it doesn't fit well in some maps, but that's because they haven't been designed with PICs in mind!

Hehe. That's because HydroCanyon was created before the PIC was released. lol

I'm sure it should still play well, if I add some sniping towers or mountains into the map.

Well MrEvil you are the MAN me and the wife played PIC Arena last night with the delayspawn mut in conjuction with Arena let's just say it was a blast. When you have full shields you can surf the shockwave of the Ion blast to the next pickup real fun man Keep 'em coming.
