vekoma
i work at sfog and we have two vekoma manufactured rides. dejavu, and ninja. i know that ninja is like the most violent ride i have ever been on. dejavu is kinda bouncy but the restraints are very well padded so it isnt bad at all. i was wondering about x-flight or batwing, vekomas flying dutchman coasters are they as bad? is vekoma notorious for their head bangers or is it just ninja??? i figured thats why they went bankrupt

Keep in mind that it's only my opinion, but I think X-Flight and Batwing are rather poor coasters. They're nowhere near as rough as Ninja, but I found the track layouts to be completely uninspired.
Of a greater concern, however, is the harnessing. I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect that the harnessing on those rides is simply unsafe. I fully expect to someday hear of someone falling off of one of those rides. (Well, someone already did, but it was a maintenance person walking the track -- that can't be blamed on the harnesses!) I see two problems. First, if a rider were to panic, I feel it would be possible for some riders to wiggle out of the harness. Second, it looks to me like there are three key holding points on the harness. If any one of them were to fail, I believe the rider would fall out. One of those three points I feel is adequately secured, but I'm not so confident about the other two points. In my opinion, the B&M version is far superior to the Vekoma version.

Actually, I've also found MF's layout to be uninspired, but I love the speed from the ride and the awesome views.
In 2000, when MF opened, I commented that it was a great ride because of the speed and awesome drop. I also felt that, when a ride comes along that's taller and faster, MF's appeal would drop, whereas the great hills on Magnum keep it as a great ride. Now, of course, Dragster is taller and faster, but it's also a much shorter ride, hence it's a different experience from MF. As a result, I feel MF and TTD do a good job complementing each other, but I still feel MF's appeal will be more limited as time progresses. Oh, of course, there is another factor. MF is a traditional-style coaster. X-Flight/Batwing are not traditional styles, yet the track layout was better suited for a traditional-style coaster. It appeared to me that the designers were not thinking of emulating the feeling of flying when laying out the track, and that was a disappointment.

The only Vekoma ride I really enjoy is Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney World (that is a Vekoma, right?). It seemed pretty comfortable to me, and the restraints are certainly more comfortable than Premier's old restraints in their Flight Of Fear clones.

No its appeal WILL drop just like Magnum's did. It may be one of the main rides that people ride NOW but in a few years where the average coasters are like 300 ft, it will seem more average to have a giga coaster in your park

Tim what do you have against Cedar Point? why do you have to be negative about something when you know you like it.

Dragster was still down when I left at about 10:45. Around 9:30, they cleared the queue and the platform -- I figured that wasn't a good sign.
And Paste, I sure hope you were kidding when you called a coaster "Woodstock's Revenge!" If you weren't kidding, consider yourself smacked for warping a coaster name! ![]()

Well I talked to a ride op yesterday and he said they had to open Dragster at 11:10 after the park closed to give more rides...you should see my thread about Dragster Info for the full story

Yes, I saw that note. I was quite surprised, since, when I passed Dragster at about 10:30, the queue and platform were empty. There were about 6 people waiting outside the queue, but they were not being allowed into the queue.
I can only guess that they may have started doing some testing at around 10:50, after I was already out of the park, and that may have drawn a crowd.
