When and Where was your 1st?
Just to start another little convo up here, When and where was your first Amusment Park??? I mentioned my 1st time, in another thread, but i remember now that, 7th grade was my 1st time on a coaster (Double loop). My 1st time at a park was at Geagua Lake (currently SFWoA), when I was 6 or 7, I actually remember looking at the Double Loop and my mom saying "thats too scarry you dont wanna go on that" ..... haha turned out it was my 1st coaster! ....

My first was in 5th grade. I went to Disneyland and California Adventure. I looked at California Screamin' and was totally freaked out. But I ended up going on it anyway.

(Squid2 gets ready to prove he's an old geezer...)
Oh, about 1977 or so, Six Flags Over Georgia, Kiddie Mine Train, which was sadly removed. 2nd coaster was Dahlonega Mine Train, (same park,) which had the guts ripped out of it when they rebuilt it. Squid2

I've been on a lot of non-looping, short, kiddie coasters cuz I used to be scared of rollercoasters. I rode my first real rollercoaster when I was like 11 (yeah, that long. sissy me.) My own MOTHER had to force me to ride Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens. It was a'ight. Nothing special. So I was thinking like, "Shoot, that was nothing. I'm-a ride every friggin coaster in America." And I'm still continuing that journey.

I had to earn my "Gotnophobia" shirt!
Well let's see...
My first coaster was Space Mountain in Disney World when I was 8, I believe. Scared me to death and kept me off of coasters for a while. When I was 12 or 13, I rode the Mine Ride and Iron Dragon at CP. I kind of liked Mine Ride, but Iron Dragon was sooooo scary to me I wasn't sure I ever wanted to ride it again. Then last October when I was 20 (waaaaay more pathetic than 11!), I went to CP with one of my friends and PASTE. He got me on every coaster there except Millennium Force (shows the power of love, doesn't it ) and even though I was terrified, something new happened: I actually started to have fun. Enough fun that I bought a season pass to CP. The last of my fear vanished on the morning of my 21st b-day when I rode Dragster for the first time, as my first ride of the day. Now I'll ride anything anywhere at any time! ![]()

Kings Island, The Beastie was my 1st coaster. Then when I was about 10 or 11 I rode The Beast, The Vortex, and every other coaster in the park, I don't remember what all was there at that time. I picked one day and decided I was going to go for it and ride every coaster in the park!

I remember it clearly. My first real rollercoaster was Vortex at what was then KI. it was a blast, and built my love for the ole rollercoasters. And on a side note, my first CP rollercoaster was Raptor.

My mother was pregnant with my brother when she rode a coaster... does that make it his first coaster or not?
(That would be the Dahlonega Mine Train, 1967.)Sad part is, the only park near me was Six Flags Over Georgia, so it took until last year for me to even ride a hypercoaster, flying coaster, wild mouse coaster, and a suspended coaster. I still haven't ridden an inverted coaster yet. (Can't fit in the seats.) Squid2

What's an "ass. foreman"? I'm thinking it's not what it sounds like

Time to go back to the stone ages.
I know my first visit to Cedar Point was at age 3, waaaaaaay back in 1970 (and I haven't missed a season since). However, we also have some home movies from another park, taken in 1969. My parents aren't sure, but they think it was Edgewater Park. As for the 1st coaster, I don't know. I barely remember my sister coaxing me onto some coaster when I was really small -- may have been at Edgewater, although I thought it was at Cedar Point. I am certain that it's no longer there. Anyway, it terrified me. I finally overcame that about 21 years ago when I rode Gemini. Fascinatingly dull, eh? Aren't you sorry you asked?

I'm going to go back to 2 parks that most people probubly won't recognize.
The first park I was ever taken too was Idora park, which has sadly almost completely burned to the ground over the past 20 years. I'm actually working on a novel (horror suspense) about an abandoned amusement park (many trips to Idora to provide visuals ^^ only ride I was big enough to go on were the huge flying swings, think normal ones, but built higher (or maybe it was that I was 3 of 4 at the time). First "real" coaster I can't remember the name, but it was an old woddy at Geogha Lake (I know I spelled that wrong) in Pa. I don't know if the park even exists anymore, let alone the ride, it may have been sold. Besides that, the only one I can remember the name of was the Gemini at Ceder Point. I was 5 (tall for my age ^^) and I was able to go on, of course, with little urging from my parents. Now, I'm lucky enough to live less than 15 minutes from 8 Flags over New England (Riverside park to you locals) but it lacks any truely great coasters. Don't say superman, compared to Goliath, Millennium force and TTD it is horrid ^ - |

Okay, laugh if you want to, but my first park was a wonderful kiddie park that is still in operation. If you knew how old I am, you would realize that is a big deal! Anyway, they have a great kiddie coaster called the Little Dipper. That technically was my first coaster...it is a blast, btw! I couldn't wait for my daughter to be old enough to go on it, so I could ride with her...and it was still fun!!
My first adult coaster was the Big Dipper at Geauga Lake, which is the coaster that I think Toxikfoxx was referring to. It is still in operation, although the park is now SFWOA. I remember no one else wanted to ride it with me, so I was in line alone. I got to ride with another little girl, we both screamed our brains out (could be why I am the way I am now! ) I remember feeling like I was going to slide right out of the seat...that coaster has some great air time! Especially, the front seat! It is still one of my favorite coasters, just for the memories!Edit - I found a pic of the Little Dipper. The website says the park has been in operation since 1952. ![]()

Well what I am about to say is going to sound pathatic, went to DisneyWorld rode Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain when I was about 8 yrs old. Those were the only two coasters I would ride. When I was 31 (how pathatic) went to IOA and rode the Hulk and Dueling Dragons(fire is my favorite of the two). You cant get me off of them now.I have ridden all of tghe coasters at SFOG and a wooden coaster called Rampage at Visonland. My future plans for next year is up to Hershey park and back down to SFA. As you can see I have a lot of catching up to do.

My first roller coaster ride was at CP. It was the year Gemini opened and I was looking at it. I was not too sure about riding it. My grandmother grabbed my hand started in line. I said I wanted to look at it. She said something like there's no time to look at it, we need to ride it. So my first ride was the tallest and fasted in the world at that time.
My grandmother kept riding roller coasters until she was 80. She is now 85 and wants to ride them more, but can't handle the walking. The last new one she went on was Magnum and she loved it. She did not want to ride standing or with her feet hanging, so she never tried some of the other new ones. |

I know a lady who is so frail she really can't even leave her house anymore, but she rode Raptor a couple years ago when she was in her late 70's/early 80's and she LOVED it! In fact, she was the one who convinced my mom to go on it this spring. She's awesome

There was a park in Holyoke? I live about 20 minutes from there.... Anything left of it, defunct or competely gone? I'm doing research for a book I'm writing (not about coaster, but a horror story set in an abandoned park ^^) I would love to hear about it/see the remains.

Toxikfoxx There is not to much left up there the carrousel was bought by a group and is in downtown holyoke. the coaster was set on fire about 3 years after the park closed alot of over growth of trees and bushes. few of the old buildings remain.earler this year there was another fire up there and the bumper car carrousel and whip buildings were destroyed.I have not been up there to look around in a few years. channel 57 in springfield aired a documentry on mountian park a few weeks back and were selling copies of it on vhs tape and on another note mt. tom ski area was right next door to the park and that closed about 5 years ago do to the warm winters we had. If you want i could take you up there. I only live 2 minutes away from the old park.

Like Linkin Park eh? they cool. good song. I remember my first rollercoaster but not my first park. My first was The Demon at Paramounts Great America in Santa Clara, CA when I was about 8 or 9. My dad tricked me into riding it. He said it was on of the little kiddie rides. After that I will go on any rollercoaster no matter how intense they are. BRING THEM ON!
