Hi I'm a Newbie!! Terraforming question

Ok I havent played a full game yet, but I am feeling OK about this game I am playing (I am on turn 85 or so dont quite remember). However... ok HOW DO YOU TERRAFORM? I still haven't figured it out, is it like a new tech or something? Help is appreciated, this is the first game that is like this that I have played, and I really like it. (I played civ2 a little bit but not like this).

Thanks in advance.

First you need teraforming techs. Things that modify temperature, gravity, magnetic field, etc. Then, I've always found that the vice roy will put a bit into teraforming once the planet gets on its feet a bit. Generaly, after a new teraforming tech, you only need a burst on the teraforming slider (on the planet screen) to get the teraforming done. There is some maintanence cost, but I think that is under the hood. Some people put teraforming various places in one of their development plans to get the vice roy to act on it sooner.

The terraforming techs :

Sunlight Redirection Const_10 TFormRin +=1
Magnetic Field Modification MthCm_18 TFormRin +=1
Atmospheric Containment BioSc_25 TFormRin +=1
Climate Controllers MthCm_31 TFormRin +=1
Planetary Core Heat Pumps Energ_36 TFormRin +=1
Atmospheric Processors BioSc_41 TFormRin +=1, TFormPar = 1
Bio-Engineered Life BioSc_45 TFormRin +=1, TFormPar = 1

Each of them allows you to terraform 1 'ring' on your planets (look at the habitability display to see the rings in question). The last two also allow you you turn a Green 2 into a Paradise assuming you have sufficient 'rings' available to do it.

Also, not one of the techs are 'keep this' so you may well end up missing one or more of them (if you luck is bad enough, you could miss them all).

I find that when the tech is available they get used without doing anything, including not having teraforming in a dev plan.

The viceroys will automaticly develop planets; all devplans do is apply additional weights - above and beyond the preexisting ones - to things the player wants done.
