Is it me or is everyone here for Horizons only?

What's with everyone talking about Horizons. Fair enough it's a good game but is every Beta Tester here after that one game? Beta Testing aint just about playing the games you like. it's about helping out the Game Creators and the Publishers.

Come on guys get creative.

heh

They want us to work for free.

Our reward is Entertainment.

Why would I beta test a game that isn't entertaining... for free?

Would you do what you do for a living, for free?

What the hell is Horizons?

Honestly, I've read the name on betatests.net, but I don't know anything about it.

Horizons is an MMORPG being published by Atari. It has a few new features, like playing as dragons, that set it aside from the crowd.

Also, another reason why most people here are talking about Horizons is because since it's an MMO, more people get accepted into it then other games, because they need to properly fill up a repersentation of the game, which requires lots of people.

I think that most people here are signed up for the Horizons beta because of all the Atari betas, that's the most talked about (at least in my experience).

A friend of mine introduced me to the game close to a month ago and suggested I sign up and wait to get accepted (he was still waiting back then). He's an Asheron's Call player, so he's already a fan of MMORPGs. I'm not a huge RPG fan normally, but there are a few I like (the Elderscrolls series especially), so I was at least partially interested in this. The last beta test I did was the MMORPG (well, sorta RPG) Planetside, and that was one of the best experiences I've had in a long time.

Like Andy, I normally enjoy FPSs: DoD, UT2003, etc. and am greatly anticipating the release of Doom III and Half Life 2. I felt that Horizons would be a good chance to branch out into different genres. I've heard good and bad stuff about its main competition, Asheron's Call and Everquest, and some have speculated that this will best both of those games. If Horizons becomes the best online RPG out there, I'll be happy knowing I was a part of making it better (even if I don't actually play it once it goes commercial).

I Agree

Yeah I agree. I have nothing against Horizons and I'd love to be part of the Beta Testing team for it, but there was a huge interest from loads of Beta Testers.

Thanks admdrew

Cool, that is what we need. I can guarentee that as more BETA's open everyone will have something of interest to talk about here.

My goal is to build the best BETA test community on the net.

Thanks, a lot of people went into setting this up and it looks like it is starting to take off.

Hopefully with a little TLC from everyone it will become the #1 beta test community in the world (I dream big).

Thanks

With an active community manager, a great community, and a large operation like beta tests.net dedicated strictly to testing, I'd say it'll get there in no time.

One thing I think I like about this beta testing "scheme" is the community. Lots of people to talk to and DEV/Admin responses.

The best way to keep a system like this alive is communication with the tester on both an official setting and an unofficial setting. I believe this community with thrive and the will system flerish with all the feedback you provide.
GREAT JOB Atari, give Mike a raise!

Hello, I've been lurking around here long enough thought I should post. I'm here mainly for the Horizons beta, but just got accepted into another one of the Atari betas, so I'm anxious to dive in and start testing. I hope one day my pending on Horizons changes, so I can get in and help.

I'm hoping Artifact is working well with their beta group to cut as many bugs as possible before release. I was in the AC2 Beta and reported numerous bugs, but like so many others where ignored. In AC2 beta I focused mainly on UI, and network testing (various firewalls/bandwidth throttling/etc). Hope to do the same once in Horizons.

They'll add betas as the system goes on. By December, more PS2 betas may arrive.

Well I applied for the Horizons Euro test and the T3 test, the thought of playing as a termintor in the battlefield 1942 engine appeals to me alot im kinda hoping we get to see some of the Hunters Killers in that game.

I applied for about every game on pc except deer hunter because I don't like killing animals on that way. I'm hoping on a job in the gamesbusiness, that's why I have my own gamesite, I already worked for a gameprogram on tv, ... I write my own games, just the story and in my spare time I try to study c++ and some 3d studio max. I'll try all different ways to get in to the industry, I already talked with Nintendo but they didn't had any jobs left. I'll play lots of games and I often find bugs or things I would have changed, it's actually not fun this way. When I play games I often can't enjoy it because those bugs are in it or that I think what were the developers thinking. Some things are easy to make in the game but I wonder why they never added it...

Beta testing is just another way to try getting in to the industry... that's why I would test lots of games. I would even test kiddy games I don't need a reward like entertainment to beta test, it would be an honor to work allong with a project and help the developers.

You've GOTTA play Deer Avenger

BTW: I wouldn't play that game either, I like animals too much as well. Cat person here though.

If you're looking to get into the industry, I recommend attending DigiPen. It's got great ties with Nintendo, and is only a block away from them. Also, fan sites help too as they build trust in your and display your ability to handle PR situations. And they build ties with companies.
