It means pawn or just another word for own and the mix between the two is pown.

Like teh, pwn is a misspelling of a common word, in this case "own". As you can see on the keyboard the letter p is right next to the letter o. When someone types in own incorrectly pwn comes out. Owning somone id a common insult and its misspelling has been internalized in 1337 speak just like teh.

1337 speak is an irony in itself.
Owning someone is fairly easy to figure out.

When ppl first started using 'pwn' i wondered where the hell it came from, and from what i heard like 2 years ago in cs, it came from koreans saying own, but i think they dont have an 'o' in their language or pronounce it as 'p' (dont remember which) and thus came PWNAGE!!!!

origions of PWN & PWNED

pretty funny really

blame it on the makers of warcraft

Quote:
pwned

A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." When the computer beat a player, it was supposed to say, so-and-so "has been owned."

Instead, it said, so-and-so "has been pwned."

It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force.

"Man, I rock at my job, but I still got a bad evaluation. I was pwned."

OR

"That team totally pwned us."

Pwnd means Pre-Owned. I guess you could say, owned before you get owned?
