"Please insert install disc 1" ???

My brother went to best buy awhile ago, and bought axis and allies so we'd have a game to play on LAN. He installed the game, and nothing went wrong. But, when I went to try and get it installed it gave an err:

"Please insert install disc 1"

I put in the friggin install disc. It makes no sense. My brother and I are both running XP, but his is upgraded processor and video card wise. Is there anything I can try so that I can play the game?

It is more likely to be a problem with the CD-ROM drive you use. What kind of drive is it and do you have any special software or drivers loaded for it? An example would be CD-RW with vendor provided utilities to watch for blank media.

Also try clearing your temporary files and reboot the computer then try the install again. If you can't install, that rules out most patches as a fix.

I use a 16x dvd-rom using the standard drivers in windows xp. I also clear out my temporary files pretty often.

This sounds most likely to be a secuROM issue to me. You'd probably be best to call tech support (the number is printed in the back last pages of the game manual). BTW if you're planning on playing with someone over a LAN, you'll need to purchase an additional retail copy of the game for each computer running simultaneously. The EULA states the game may only be installed on a single computer. To my knowledge there is no current method or burner capable of making a reliably playable backup (Even though the EULA states you are allowed to make 1). Take my word for it or end up with a few coasters. See http://sirdavidguy.coolfreepages.com...otections.html

I haven't seen any SecuROM issues with installers before. Usualy it craps out when you start the game. It should be possible to add the protection to the installer and that may be what's going on in this case. Like I said earlier, disable any software that has special access to your CD-ROM drive. Updating drivers can sometimes fix this.

I would certainly not hesitate to contact tech support!
