Error Message

I just got the game for christmas and tried for two hours last night but finally gave up so if anyone can help me I appreciate it here is the error code I am getting:

"thread MAIN caught unhandled exception - Access Violation (C0000005) trapped at 1B:7B69BD0"

Has anyone else received this error code also and if so what did you do to resolve it.

Yup

I got that several times.

For some odd reason, my AA.exe file was read-only, removing the tick worked for a little while.

Only thing now, is that it just crashes without giving me any error message.

c:\program files\atari\axis & allies\

the files are there or some path like that.

select and RIGHT CLICK the file, then click "Properties" from the menu. The default tab should show a "read only" checkbox.

Really a .EXE should not matter if it is read only. If you are running it on XP and running it from a user other than the one that installed the game then I could see some sort of permissions problem causing a game to crash. Shouldn't happen with games "designed for windows" today since they should be designed with security settings from XP in mind. I have a lot of problems trying to get older games working on XP since the installers don't give all the users the settings they need, and I don't want to make all users "Administrators" so they can play a stinking game.

True that, but in my case (on Windows 2000 Pro) it actually worked for a little while, at least I could play the game without crashes for some hours.

The read only flag on the executable would not affect crashes. The .exe file is 'not' being modified, which is the only thing the read only flag would affect (the ability to modify the file).
