Custom Scenery - Letters {On hold for now, sorry}

I've been away for AGES! Please use the updated version from Jonwil available at his thread. For any collection usage requests (and I still am getting some in my mailbox...though the last was in Feb), I give you whatever permission I still have, please OK it through Jonwil though, since he did the work to update them! HUGE thanks Jonwil! 6/2/2007

I also tested them (Think that's where I went wrong last night...thought I had but guess I didn't).

The first 2 sets are complete.

More information, images, and the downloads are available here. (the downloads available will *NOT* work with Wild, but the info page is still ok).

Now, mountable on existing walls!

Same page above will take you there.

As I started in the Scenery Editor Thread, but will switch to here for more specific stuff (so I don't bog that down more than I have today.)

I am currently working on a set of letters, numbers, and a few symbols to be added into the scenery.

Here are the basics so far

Pumper:
Quote:
Nice! I love it. So right now, this set won't align flush against an adjacent wall you're saying? Either way - that's still amazing. Can't wait to see this finished.
Correct, right now they are standalone letters. They won't align flush as they are oriented nicely by themselves (the space in front and back of the letter). My next step will be to create a "wall" item to place behind them to give that illusion. After that, I will change the placement to allow them to be backed against a wall. It's not really difficult, just creating all the ovl files sucks...and icon refs...and text strings...and scenery items ><.

WalkingSnake:
Quote:
The only problem is that they need to be BOLDER. Maybe use Arial Black font.
Next time for sure (models are all created already for this...but planning on doing a few fonts of everything, so will be sure to include that one.)

Thanks for all the positive comments so far they're keeping me working on this knowing that people will appreciate it.

Not yet. There are roughly 59 models I have here per set. Which means, 59 modelling edits, 59 ASE file edits, 59 Ovl creations (these are the real pain for this), 60 Icon Reference Creations, 60 (+1 for 2 sides of quotes) Text String Creations, and 61 scenery item creations.

Will release the first one as a sort of open beta then see what people think I should remove, add, adjust, etc before I get going fully on the next set. Hopefully will be able to remove a few of the symbols and stuff that are in there, but I'm not sure what the community wants/needs out of these yet.

So far, future plans include (in no particular order):
Raised letters with wall type item to add behind
Raised letters aligned to edge of tile to be able to add existing walls behind
Large letters (1/2 tile, double-wide, double-high)
Other special characters (british pound would be a good one, euro, dunno about others?)
Other fonts (Arial Black to be bold, etc)

I'm not going to go nuts on the next run though until either a) I get a mass importer type thing going or b) I can reduce the number of characters I use or c) I get masochistic again

So, is your amusement park devoted to helping little kids learn how to count? Lol.

Looks cool. I keep running into problems, check the official thread at the general forums for the latest of my woes.

Hehe, no park built around these yet figured once I get the few additional similar sets done I can make the larger 3d custom signs (not like the path ones...yet )

Although, I do like these for a junior area of a park...will have to play.

BUT! I finished this first set.

It has A-Z and 0-9 (I canned the special characters for now). It's sort of an open beta type of deal, as I want to make these the best they can be (and I can then use the feedback for the 2nd and 3rd generation).

More information, images, and the downloads are available here. (2 downloads available, 1 RAR and 1 self-executing RAR).

This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version

~<Edit>~
Maz, I don't know. I saw something about it deep into the Importer thread, but was already most of the way there by the time I read it . Either way, 2 different ones out there won't be a big deal, as we probably went about it differently and will just have more options for people out there to find exactly what they're looking for .

<1:30am EDT, link temporarily broken on purpose to test something first...that I really should have before, sorry about that>

hehe, I had most of the modelling work done last night, today was fine tuning (they were all offset by 1/4 tile, and no material) and figuring out the colorizing (had to DL the Photoshop trial to do this...will have to work like mad creating basic textures over the next 30-days).

Then the fun part of doing the ovl files. (And...I work from home, and work was very light today, but shhh )

Checking this now

Missed a critical step in my testing, as Ryboxl may have inadvertantly pointed out. I am testing the extracting and stuff right now to make sure it works.

Ryb, you are creating a new sandbox and stuff and not using an existing park right? Beyond the archive files being futzed up, not really sure what else would cause that.

Checking these files now though.

Looks Great Caffinated Unless the files went to the wrong place, they should show up in a new sandbox. I haven't gotten this yet, but I'll make sure to get it tomorrow & check it out. I'm pretty worn out right now lol

Yeah, I'm using a new sandbox park, I'm rearranging the files, but nothing seems to work.

Ok, tested the archive files and they are working properly. I did have a typo in the instructions on the linked HTML page, that's been fixed.

Ryb, it should be style\themed, not styles\themed as I originally had. Beyond that, I'm not sure .

Alright, I'll try again, but when you extract the file, do you leave it exactly the same? Or take the files out?

They worked on my side. The set is not with the walls and roofs - but in the scenery folder (with the chess pieces, candy, etc..).

If you have the archive in the style/themed folder...

Depending on which file you downloaded...

EXE
Place the file into the style\themed folder. Double-click to start the extractor, default path from here is correct.

If you open the file on the desktop (or other location), you can either specify the proper path by clicking "Browse" and navigating to the style\themed folder, or even extracting right where it is and then copying the folder to its proper place.

RAR
Place the file into the style\themed folder. Using winRAR or whatever app you use, choose the "Extract to here" option.

Like the EXE above, if you extract to a different location, you can copy the resulting folder into the style\themed folder by hand and it'll work.

Sorry for confusion, I'm pretty bad at writing instructions as I tend to leave bits out .

I can't wait until you release a version that will go up against a wall. And then possibly quarter-tile letters.

Great custom set, Caffinated/Cafeen!

I personally like how thin the letters are - since the kerning or spacing between letters is inherently a bit stretched out due to RCT3's quarter-tile limitation, this works well with the weight of the font.

Keep up the good work!

Don't worry, it's not a competition. It's also been Pumper's idea, my idea, Bitter Jeweler's idea, and probably many other peeps too. We've just been busy with other things.

The RCT3 world has room for many people's lettering sets, I'm sure yours will be well received too. Keep at it!
