Custom Scenery - Covered Bridges (Preview)

Well, you all seemed to like the letters once I got them going right , so now I'm trying something new.

Originally, this pack was going to contain primarily New England scenic items, however, due to popular demand, larger usability, and lack of possible pure New England scenic items, I have decided to change this project to bridges.

Currently in progress, the old style Covered Bridge.
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version

This is a very basic in-game preview of what's to come. I still need to edit the roof end pieces, add textures, add flooring, and all that fun stuff.

There will be a few different styles of open walls (the crossmember pieces you see) and roofing.

(Note: The walls appear to be right along the path, this is due to 2 things, 1) Collision detection is currently off, 2) The walls are set to the midline of the axis, this makes them identical whether you place the wall on the inside tile, or the outside tile.)

Other items in the pack include:
Hiway Bridge (generic one, with the green sides).
Iron Truss bridge (the generic train style bridge, with a single high truss structure)
Medival-style drawbridge (may have to make this less customizable due to chain members...angles would change due to length of bridge)
The Barrel Bridge (I love this idea!) - while not animated, it may still look neat.

Lastly. I may attempt suspension bridge pieces. This will be *very* difficult to make customizable due to various factors affecting the support cable curvature. (I may have to just make standard lengths here too...)

Let me know what you think...and if you have any ideas to add into this pack that I may have forgotten about.

Wow!
Wish list from what you said- Cross members, by themselves, and a curved wall that angles up at least two blocks high from a full block radius to a quarter block radius. And maybe some quarter sized elements.
Thanks

Garfield guy, there is one. But it hasn't helped me yet because I can't even run the program without it crashing.

As for the scenery: Awesome! This will go well with the adventure theme, more of a colonial thing than carribbean and pirates. Keep working on it, and don't give up!

Looks very good so far Caffinated & a very good idea also I'm sure it'll look even better with the textures applied to it.

Here's an idea that just popped into my head as I was typing this lol

Maybe make 1 "set" with some snow on the rooftop for a winter type setting? I know we have the "snow" ground texture for the game already.

Thanks for the replies so far. Not much work was done beyond this, as 90 degree weather, no fan, hot laptop on lap, and 2 hrs of "night before sleep" made it rather unappealing today.

Larry - I understand the cross members by themselves, will be sure to include that. I don't quite understand the curved wall though. Perhaps a quick paint style drawing would help me out more (sometimes these things are more difficult to explain in words.)

Marnetmar - A snowy roof texture would be great! Excellent idea (we do get an awful lot of snow up here )

Just in case people haven't seen these before,

(shot ruthlessly stolen from some site on the web, but using for basic setup).

I have another too that I'm using (more of a side angle shot), but can't find it on the web now ><.

There's some cool, old covered bridges in Ohio that I've seen. One you can drive your entire car through and is like 300 feet long!

Still chugging along on this set. It's a bit more complex than the letters, so has been taking me more time.

Here is my current progress.
This Image Was Automatically Resized by using the Screenshot Tag. Click to view the full version
Currently, the main roof texture is the wrong file (forgot to use the flipped version ><), so that looks a bit off, will look like the end piece there. I am also missing the diagonal pice that joins the bottom (plank) wall to the roof end piece.

Think I'm going to change this from a New England based set to a bridges set (to include Hiway style bridges, Iron truss bridges, and the like. There just isn't enough stuff for pure New England. (Will still create some snowy roofs tho! no worries ).

Sweet! I'm likin' the wooden plank walls on the bridge! You'll be releasing these as seperate peices though, right? Cause I'd like to use the walls and roofs for things other than bridges, also.

Man, I can't wait until you release this set! I'm liking this whole custom scenery that Jonwil started. Thank you Jonwil!

Are you gonna make suspension bridge pieces too? That would help for more modern parks. Looking great!

Yep, they are seperate pieces.

Note: I am a very bad texture creator . The planks (and all the wood in this so far) were swiped from the Block Wall set from RCT3 stock, I just changed the color to brown and chose to not allow for color changing. The roof shingles are from the same set (again, just changing the color and blocking color changing).

Suspension bridges would be difficult, due to the curvature of the main support cables (changes depending on various factors including bridge length, tower height, height from the deck, and seperation distance of the support towers). After I finish up the basics, I may attempt this, but there's no guarentee here.

Adobe Photoshop 5 makes pretty good textures. Want me to help? I could send you some images to use.

I have a demo of Photoshop C2 that I've been using. I'm just not patient enough to create them . Cutting and pasting from existing stuff works for me.

However, the more stuff I have to work with the better, if you want, you can email them to me and I'll see what I can do. (PM for addy).

Will you also be making draw bridges for castles? You could also make some floating barrels that are on their side that you could put under your paths that are just above the water. Y'know, so that it could feel like the paths are floating on the water with the barrels underneath them.

There's a lot of neat stuff that you could do with this theme.

Yeah, he's right, do a very large set of bridges! Maybe you can create a bridge with arch supports!

Make sure you do a flat road texture that we can just lay down on the ground to make it look like traffic came from that way.
