Custom Scenery Question

I have RCT 3 and whenever i import custom scenery, my saved games shut down when i try to open it in the scenery bar. I have to start a new game to be able to use the scnery. Is there any way to avoid this so i can use the new scerny in saved games?

What kind of graphics card do you have? I have the same problem and its because I need a new card

The problem isnt in the 3d (i gues) card maybe u dont put it in the right folder or maybe u dont unpack the file corectley but if it was a problem with the card it would be the polygon count went to high on models but that doesnt sound like your prob

It's and ATI, not sure exactly what model, but realitively new

use the scenario editor, if you open a regular scenario the scenery is not invented yet

I know i could use a scenery editor, but i want to be able to use it without i shutting down an already saved game. I've worked a while on a park and wouldn't want to start over.

If you mean that a park that HAD custom scenery saved with it crashes when you try to re-open it again, that may be due to using a newer version of a scenery pack than what the park was saved with- and that would still be odd....

Now, if you mean that when you hover over an icon for a custom piece and the game crashes (a 'noSID for SVD' error, usually), then that's caused by a path error- the files for the scenery are not in the correct folder.

All custom scenery files so far (that I know of) need to be in the following path:

C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3\Style\Themed

In that folder there should be one folder for each set, and that folder should have 'common.ovl', 'unique.ovl', and the needed scenery files (usually in their own sub folders therein).

The most common error is that the Set's folder is actually contained in it's own subfolder in the themed directory:

\themed\customset\customset\(and here are the files) < wrong

instead of:

\themed\customset\(here are the files) < right

One thing you can do is set the game's options to wndowed mode- this will allow you to interact with the error dialogue box, sometimes before RCT3 crashes, and you might get a better idea of what's happeneing.
