New Unreal Tournament Revolution teaser video

No download required, it is encoded into the Flash 8 player and will be the first thing that loads when you go here. I made the entire thing in about 8 hours this morning. Consider it a short demonstration for those who haven't tried the mod, and an experiment for me in video editing.

Fuegerstef: Since our final player models are not in yet, our temporary solution is to use skin overlays.. they are not as bright as UTComp brightskins. Anyway once the final models are in they will have their own skins in red, blue, green and yellow.

Wow! I _really_ love that video! And you have good music with it, and the way the webpage works with that video is awesome!

BTW is there a higher quality version of that video I can download? I want to show my friends.

Ultron: Sure, I have a 640x480 version and I can encode it nicer, but the raw footage won't have the frame borders or anything. I'll post again when it's up.

Wow the thing looks great , cant wait for those fast combos .

Even the original hud :O .

EDIT : WOW will there actually be no need to do some dodge jumps or things like that when you just want to move as fast as you can ?

lol WosP, the video in that section is sped up just a wee bit. I wouldn't take that as an accurate representation of combo or movement speed. the side by side bit should be accurate..

there is no need to do dodge jumps in UT/UTR but not necessarily for that reason.

1. maps are generally smaller
2. you can go over gaps and such with piston jumps
3. gameplay is meant to be more "in your face" and not so defensive.. with dodge jumps you just dance around and away from the enemy.

alright so here is the XVid AVI version, be warned I didn't really intend for it to be viewed at this size so you'll probably pick out some sloppy editing here and there. but the huge increase in quality is nice anyway for those who want it. Quicktime version coming too...

One thing, I suggest you make the gibs not use karma. Thats how it was in UT and I think it looks bloodier that way.

whenever you import video into flash (any format), then you choose the quality settings and such (for encoding purposes). it's as simple as that. whenever you start a new .fla (flash file) just click import and then select your video file and flash does everything else. then you can export it into many different formats like a normal flash animation. you can use encoding programs to put an avi video into .swf (typical flash format) without ever touching the macromedia flash program itself. but the easiest way is just to open up flash and import the video. make sure the document size is the size you want (the video dimensions or bigger if you want to make a boarder).

flash 8 has much better video support than flash mx2004/mx.

Ok I will look into that. I was looking for a way to convert a avi file to a flash movie that I can play on the web. But I have zero experience with flash. Thanks for the information. Do you know of any program that will export the avi into flash without using macromedia? I would like to try it before I buy it.

Weapons are looking good, but I can't really say I like the looks of the maps in this vid. A little bit too classic IMO.

most of the maps in that vid are still in alpha. as are the weapons.

as for converting video to flash, this is not done directly in flash but with a special video encoding utility that comes with it, which converts avi's and other formats into macromedia's own .flv format. from here you can either upload the video to a server and call it from within the player to load dynamically, or embed the flv into the timeline of the swf. this option is tricky and "generally not recommended" but it is how I achieved the effect on the site.

Wow, I gotta say thats the best looking conversion I've seen so far.

I can't really tell from the video, but have you guys upped the polycount on all the models? That would really sweet ( I think I heard about this in another thread). I can definitely see teh weapon shine. The impact hammer looks top notch. I'm also hoping for high rez textures.

Good Luck with finishing the mod!

Definitely hehe. Unmistake-able.

All the maps we saw were conversions from UT1. DM-Curse included.

They've redone the textures n all it seems and added some subtle improvements at the same time.

The flak cannon is pretty much the final version, the rest are in the process of being upgraded. the impact hammer has a mockup of the new skin on it, but the new model isn't in since it still needs to be animated. Each will of course have high res textures.. and mapwise, if you look at the side by side comparison in curse when I am standing right in front of the wall, UTGOTY's is so blurry while UTR's is razor sharp. You know, we want to give the maps a great visual upgrade but not change them radically, someone said it was too "classic"... look at the hallway when I jump down and compare those 2 halls, old and new.. that's exactly the kind of visual upgrading we are going to have all over the place.. same exact gameplay and geometry and feel but greater detail and attention to atmosphere.

I wanted to put my comments/critiques of UTR Alpha somewhere and this thread has the closest subject title (for a current thread in this forum) for this purpose.

I installed it and played it today and it looks and feels alot like UT. It's in great shape for an alpha release, and you can tell how much better the old school maps look with the new graphics engine and technologies.

Anyhow, without further adieu (and totally understanding some of these things are probably being worked on), my comments.

WEAPONS:
Cannot seem to telefrag anyone.
Impact Hammer, single Enforcer, Shock Rifle, Pulse Gun are in tilted centered view. A few of those are also skewed in left mode.
LOADED and ALLWEAPONS summons UT2k4 weapons and on some maps they supercede the UT weapons, while others they don't.
Flak Cannon seems HUGE!
Shock Rifle looks weird in all first person view modes.
I love the View from TL Disc functionality.

HUD:
The bottom left cornerlooks barren. Maybe put your frag count like in UT.
I love the new Armor image in the HUD.
I love keeping the new bot command menu.

MENU:
Multiple entries for each weapon - one for UTR verion of a weapons and another version for UT2k4 entries. Just list the UT weapons only.

BOTS:
Bot names don't fit, such as Male Egyptian Kira and Robot Karag.
Any plans on releasing old character models, and leaving the UT2k4 bots alone? So we can pick from the UT and the UT2k4 bots?

MAPS:
Redeemer, Minigun, Flak Cannon and Pulse Rifle are missing from StalwartXL
How is support for other UT2k maps?
I assumed you scaled up the maps considering the use of UT2k4 models - if so by how much?

GRAPHICS:
Why is 90FOV not set to default?
I love the teamcolored shock rifle blasts and shield belt.
UT looks really good under this new graphics engine.

AUDIO:
I miss the thrill of M-M-Monster kill being the ultimate frag message. Holy **** and Ludicrous Kill just don't cut it. Especially when you get the voice repeating.

MOVEMENT:
I can tell the ability to step up higher steps is there, ala UT.
Any chance on having just a walldodge mutator?

FUTURE DEVEOPMENT:
Is there a way of making just the stock UT2k4 the requirement, and not the ECE?
Any chance on a gibs system?

Telefrags are being fixed. They were working at one point but I don't know what happened. Weapon views are fixable by turning bSmallWeapons to FALSE in your user ini. Small weapon view is not yet implemented.

looking into the name thing, but sorry we don't want any 2k4 assets in the game.. if people want to use 2k4 models nothing is really stopping them though, it's not like we can easily break compatability with them and there is not really any reason to.

StalwartXL has since gone beta so I assume Sjosz has fixed these issues with it. Maps don't need to be scaled, as scaling on character models is only minutely different.. by using UT's physics and movement, gameplay becomes exactly as it was in UT.. when you port a UT map to stock 2k4 it's a different story, because of the longer dodges, double jumps and all that other stuff.

Minor oversight. The shield belt looks even better for the final, less like a suit and more like a shield. It also covers the head now, and is partially transparent.

there is an option for 2k4 movement, but perhaps we will add more configurability to it later.

Right now ECE is used by Cityintro and a few of the character models. Since Cityintro is being remade and we will have our own playermodels in the final, it probably won't be required in the future.
