Fire & mana is there to help Gamera. It is what heals him.

And Mothra never helped Godzilla without being asked by the Shobojin.

Now I am off to bed.

Well considering in MOST of the Godzilla films, He is trying to smash the city/planet to bits, I say he is not the "protector of Earth". They even said a few times that Godzilla was going to be the DESTROYER of the Earth.

There are occasions when he "protects" his turf by thwomping other monsters butts. Or perhaps "helping" destroy stuff like pollution, but all in all. He just is MEAN, NASTY, and STOMPS STUFF!

Sadly yes but he needed help from two monsters and a mech to bring him down yet Godzilla was brung down by only one Mech, and everyone knows Mechs are naturally less stronger than kaiju.

The floor is now open for Zillah 91, certified Kaijuologist.

(clears throat)

Godzilla is simply a creature of instinct. His primary overriding instinct is to protect his territory (namely the entire planet) from any threat to it. The same applies to when something is between him and where he's going- be it a city, army or monster, his natural instinct is to destroy it. He protects the planet as his teritory, not out of any sort of calling, but as sheer base instinct.

Wait, isn't it the opposite? Wasn't there a Mothra movie (or a Godzilla movie with Mothra IN it), where the little fairy girls specifically state that Mothra doesn't care about protecting the people, only the planet? I remember that being said at one point or another, because Mothra was wrecking everything and people were dying, and somebody asked why she was doing that if she'd supposed to protect the planet. Then the fairies said that she didn't care about the people's lives, as long as the planet was safe. And as far as Godzilla goes, he seems indifferent. He just does what he wants, and sometimes that just happens to end up saving people and the planet, or it just happens to kill a LOT of people and put the planet at risk. He's an unstoppable and unkillable animal with lots of free time and no agenda.
