Star Tours - 2010 - New Poster

A long Time Ago,
On a Message Board Not so far away...

I had started star tours, inspired by my Soarin' Over California recreation, I felt as if I could do anything. Little did I know Star Tours would become one of the most complex rct3 movies ever made. After two attepmts I said it couldnt be done. Now, almost two years later, its has returned, alive and better than ever. Now that I have the technology by my side to help create this masterpeice I am saying it can be done! And Will be done.

This is not your average ride. It is going to be arduous and challenging and at a few times I will want to give up, but I wont. Not on myself and not on the atari community, again.

The project will be basically be supported by editing, some of the special effects I will have to call in the BIG Guns. I am talking Blue Screens, and Adobe After Effects galore, and all new special effects never seen before with RCT3, but it is all going to the cause to amaze you and set new hights to all rct3 movies everything. This isnt going to be 100% RCT3, its more 40% RCT3, 60% movie editing. But thats okay.

That sounds like a really cool idea actually.
It would be awesome to see RCT combined with special effects to make a more realistic movie.

Keep in mind the effects used in the trailer are not the final effects, they were just to give u an idea, they are sloppy, but they will be perfected come final video time.

but i meant, this isnt like a tracked ride, it is to be made entirley with the ingame camera rout editor. So yah, there yah go.

It will be intresting to see how you pull this off... I know your using the flying camera editor... but will everything in the movie be non edited... or will it be like the trailer (where the space ship moves)... unless the trailer wasn't edited.

I think you're working with a blue-key. You film the starspeeder in a blue enviroment, and replace the blue screen with other images... isn't that true?

True, on my programs its know as Chroma Keyer, and I filmed it infront of a black screen, because that made me able to circle around starspeeder, but i am going to refilm it because you can see if you look closley at the starspeeder, its invisable.

But I am filming the ships (ties, x-wings) infront of a blue screen. I need to somehow find out a way with brighter scenery (ships) though because when you put it infront of black sky and stars, then the ships are really dark, the reason you couldnt really see them in the trailer. Any ideas? Or perhaps sombody could make better X-wings and ties than whats out there.

I am going to recreate everything you see in the REAL star tours, everything will move, the ships, the scenery, but it will make editing a drag, but thats okay.

I thought it might something to do with a blue screen and just having the camera pan around it. I just thought the transparent starspeeder was on purpose, like a special effect.

Well I am going to be using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6 for the chroma keying (blue screen) and then I will be using Adobe After Effects 7.0 for the blasters, and such.

After effects is a good program. I have seen some amazing visual effects made with it. Same with Sony Vegas.

The exact reason why I am using those two programs. Vegas is a very easy editor that supports things that most more advanced editors dont, and after effects is the best program you can get for blasters, lightsabers, ect.

Seeing how interested most of you are on how I am going to pull this off. I am going to show you exactly how to make these fantasy ships fly.

It all starts off with a simple camera rout moving past the ship infront of a blue screen. Either toward or way, depending on if you want the ship to appear flying toward you or away from you.

Heres one of my tie fighters being used for Star Tours, in phase one. The Blue Screen/Filming stage.

The blue screen was created in RCT3 using a solid blue colored wall, and DRP's (OLD) Lights, the small balls that are virtually impossible to find, to create that glowing effect and making it one solid blue.

They had to be placed so precies to keep from flickering so just the huge bluescreen itself was an arduous task.

Anyway later, once we hit editing, I use chroma keyer feature in Sony Vegas, (chroma means solid color, any solid color) to remove the blue background. Now people often think this can only be done with a blue or green screen, which is not true. It can be done with any color screen, red, black, white, you name it. Just the specific color they use for the blue and the bright green are the only two colors not found anywhere.

So here is the tie fighter with the bluescreen removed via Chroma Keyer.

Yes its dark, i am sorry, I will fix that once i find an alternative to dark tie fighters.

Then we get our background, in this case I am using a huge star picture.

And we take the background stars and place them behind the tie fighters so it will appear in space, simple as that.

Thats how the movie objects are going to be done!
