![]() ![]() I remember my first exposure to "The Guyver" was back in the 1990s seeing a live action film (Mark Hamil known as Luke Skywalker of Star Wars fame was also in it) where the Guyver went up against humans who transformed into Zoanoids, which are beings from other planets. Essentially the movie looked like a sophisticated version of Power Rangers, with far better suits and effects on a serious scale. I will come back with some pics and movie info more in depth. Though today I bought at Deep Discount DVD the anime volume 1. These are the details: ![]() Quote:
![]() So anyone else familiar with this or do you want to find out more about it? Let's discuss... ![]()

Old anime in general beats new anime hands down. The Guyver OVA, Devilman, Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost In the Shell. Need I go on?
*ahem* Anyway.. It's difficult to juxtapose them really, since they are different lengths, and one follows the original story more accurately. However, I am going to go for the The Guyver 12 part OVA. My reason for following the New series is because it gives you a consistent insight into the manga, which is nice for those of us who can't afford to buy it. It's nice and flashy in places, but sometimes the fights feel quite sluggish & stiff. People criticize The Guyver 12 OVA for not honouring the manga, but I disagree. Since when does it HAVE to follow the source material? It took the original manga and produced some fantastic moments, such as the battle at the school between The Hyper Zoanoid Team Five. I love the English dub. Okay, so it's cheesy in places, but a lot of the voices really do suit the characters. Steve Blum as Makishima is great stuff. And you have to laugh at Zerbebuth, Lisker, Zx-Tole, AND Aptom all having the same voice actor! I haven't heard many of the English VAs for the New Guyver series. Mizuki sounds quite good, but Makishima doesn't have anything on Blum's! And what's with this slating of the 12 OVA English Sho? I thought he was fine. The music's great too. Sometimes overused, but great none the less. The build-up music is so fitting in Episode 12, as Aptom & Sho charge up their lasers. 'I CAN'T BE! IT CAAAAAN'T BEEEEE!!!!' It's a just it was let down by the second act, that has some really shocking animation at times. All you have to do is mention Episodes 7 & 8 to send a shiver down the spine of the Guyver fanbase!

The Zoanoids are not aliens, they are humans biologically altered to turn into monsters. Sure the technology that is used to make them able to do this is alien in origin. In fact the aliens also "made" humans to be weapons, then Chronos uses the lost technology found in the ruins of the alien base, to make Zoanoids. The Guyver units (there are 3) are alien in origin.
The '90s show is pretty good, my only complaint is that it never ends, it just leaves you hanging as the Guyver 1 & 3, along with a Zoalord-like being go to attack the alien ruins, which are the main HQ of Chronos. The new show is pretty good so far, and obviously will be a lot more in depth & tell lots more of the story. Cause they took out Chronos Japan in like the 8th episode, IIRC the '90s version did not do this until at least the 12th episode. The 2 Live action films are really silly especially the first that features Mark Hamill & Jimmy "Dynomite" Walker (the later as a Zoanoid who raps).

Who do you think would win, Godzilla or Guyver Zoalord? I would say Guyver because he is faster, not a big target, has very powerfull attacks.
Godzilla might've these sensors in his head but still.

I have a trailer vid for Guyver 2 live action movie. I will be picking this up next at the end of the month online.
At Eric, sorry about that data. I thought the Zoaniods were aliens. I couldn't remember all the way back to when I first saw the show on Cinemax. @ Omid I will have to check out that version of Guyver you mentioned.

ok my Guyver purchase is late. I was planning to do some reviews of the disc and if it doesn't arrive today, then I will email the online vendor.
EDIT: For 1-27-07 I got my Guyver DVD in yesterday afternoon when I got home from work. So its here and I will start reviewing and getting ready to do some episode reviews with a few captures. This is based on "reasonable access to information" guidelines and based on the premise of "reviews".

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I am sure that the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh is probably a fan of The Guyver.
