Demo Crash Dell D820 w/ NV120 graphics
Hey All,
Anyone running demo on Latitude D820 yet? I installed and ran, but game crashes after launch. Don't even get to splash screen people are talking about. Tried running in 2000 compatability mode as someone suggested, but no luck. Uninstalled & reinstalled, same thing. Reinstalled video drivers, no help. Dxdiag shows I'm running DirectX 9.0c. Also, when I run the config program, the dialog box looks like it's only showing about 1/4 of the box. I see the buttons to set graphics options to low and medium, and the advanced tab, but the rest is not shown. I can't close the box once I open it except through killing the program in Task Manager. The program looks like it's correctly identifying my graphics hardware. When I click the advanced button, another dialog box pops up that I can see in its entirety - and can consequently close it using the "ok" or "cancel" buttons. I was prompted to install the Aegia drivers even though I obviously don't have an Aegia card installed. Is that standard procedure -- I'm assuming it's a runtime library w/ emulation mode if no physical card is present? XP Professional, Core Duo 2.00 GHz, 2 Gig Ram, Nvidia Quadro NV120 video card w/ 256MB ram Any ideas? |

For the PhysX drivers, yes it's standard procedure. They not only manage Ageia cards, but provide as well the framework for PhysX, and hence is mandatory when the game uses PhysX, even if you don't have an Ageia PhysX card.
For the settings window size issue, I remember someone had the same problem on the French forum. If I recall right, there was the possibility to change the size property of the window by editing the properties of the shortcut. I suppose it's prolly linked to a parameter of the UI theme you use (text size or something) and that is not common.

Have you installed the PhysX drivers? I had this problem with another game, even though I do not have the Ageia card, the game did not run without loading the drivers.

yep PhysX drivers installed
I've tried with and without the Ageia drivers installed same prob -- nice trick w/ the window size -- I'll try that. Maybe if I can adjust the graphics options properly, I can get the demo to work.

Try to assign SILVERFALL.EXE to a single CPU. You can do this manually after launch via Task Manager (Set Affinity) witch is not very handy. I use PowerStrip for doing so, but there are other utilities around.
