"Can't leave the house" Bug

Well i picked that from an original post:

This sounds similar to a bug I encountered last night - the infamous '"can't leave the house bug" - where every time I encountered the "Saving...Please Wait" screen the thing would just hang (when I attempted to leave the house or even quit the game from the house). Anyway, I didn't have the uninstaller crash that you mentioned but you probably still can recover from this. What I did:

1. Back up profile folder (My Documents\Test Drive Unlimited)
2. Uninstall the game
3. Remove the Program Files\Atari folder
4. Remove the Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Test Drive Unlimited folder
5. Reinstall the game
6. Restore your backup profile folder to the correct location

Originally I just did an uninstall/reinstall and then restore of the profile but the problem still occurred (in both online and offline profiles). Only when I added steps 3 and 4 did things get resolved (note: I didn't touch the registry) Apparently there were one or more corrupted files in those directories.

Bob

I putted there so everyone could see it.
I've done everything he says, full regclean, deleted program files\atari folder, and others.

I've booted the computer after full cleaning and re-installed TDU, pasted the Test Drive Unlimited back-up'd folder to My Docs. Then i relaunched the game with crossed fingers and, logged in, automatically spawned to the house and i leaved it. Nothing. Still freezed on the Saving picture...

If someone has a better fix WITHOUT reformatting, please help me.

Icon6 Omg it now works!

Read carefully and apply in order to solve the problem:

Launch TDU, skip both intros, stay at the first menu when ur log in ur account. go to options, stay at ur initial resolution but turn everything low. No HDR, No AA, Low level of details...

Save ur settings, roll back to first menu, then quit. If it saves right, and it goes back to windows desktop, ur in a good way.

Now, relaunch TDU, log in ur account, and go to ur house. Stay at house, check news and do stuff but dont go in the street! Wait 30 sec, then Quit from the menu.

If it goes back to windows desktop, its good.

Execute TDU, login and go in the streets

If that doesnt work, well post a reply so people could try some other solutions.

Good luck.

I had exactly the same problem. All I did was go to the Garage, select a car at another house and go to that house. Everything was fine leaving from that house and the game was as normal, even leaving again from the original house. After 3 or 4 times doing this the game decided I could leave from the house I appeared at when starting and all was well.
Hope it works for anyone in the same situation, it's a bit easier than the other solutions

Thanks!!!!!! I had the same issue as you and I followed your instructions and it actually bloody worked! Thanks again mate.

Now if Atari would actually deliver the bloody patch as promised MAYBE we wouldn't have rely on unpaid Atari help for solving our various issues for this misery of a game title.

My game freezes right there.

EDIT::

NVM, I got it to work after deleting the BuddyCache.dat file. I now have a new problem where 10 minutes into the game it freezes.
