No CD-Key in Canada?

Hi, i've just gotten the game yesterday and I searched all over the manual and found no cd-key. I've then searched the Witcher forums and found out that other Canadian's are having the same problem. Is there a way for us to get cd-keys so we can register our product to receive the bonus content?

Contact Atari Support. You just need to prove you bought the game and they will send you a key.

I just bought The Witcher today from one of the ebgames in my city in Canada. I got the game all installed and when I went to register the game there was no cd-key in the package anywhere. I flipped throught the manual from front to back and there isn't anything on the disk either. I gave ebgames a call to see if they would do an exchange for me.
The manager checked another one of his copies out and there was no cd-key in that package either.

Since there wa no use goign to the store to get an exchange, I placed a call with Atari tech support instead. From doing a check on the forums, this is looking like it is an issue with The Witcher packages that were distributed in Canada.

I purchased my first copy at Future Shop in Ottawa. Once opened I discovered pieces of the case broken inside, a shattered CD, and no Registration Key.

Returning to the store they were nice enough to replace it. Arriving home I find again broken pieces of the case inside, a scratch CD from the broken pieces which is not readable, and no Registration Key.

Once again back I go to Future Shop and this time they cracked open the 5 remaining copies they had. Two of the the five contained broken pieces of the case loose inside and none of the 5 had Registration Keys. That Future Shop has now pulled the Witcher off the shelves. They will not refund my purchase as once opened you can only exchange games if the CD is broken, damaged, or unreadable. In fact they aren't even obligated to replace the Game if they so choose. So like many others in Canada I now have a CD with no Registration Key.

A friend hearing of my experience went to Best Buy to purchase his copy and upon opening his game right in the store in front of employees discovered there was no Registration key included. Best Buy had 6 copies and opened them all to find not a one had any registration Key included. They pulled their copies off the shelf as well.

I went to EB Games and mentioned this problem to them, since I know the Managers. They informed me they already knew about this but were still selling their copies of the game anyway. The reasoning was that it doesn't prevent playing of the game only registering for the Extra Content.

I've used the Customer Support form to report the problem since this is the only method of contact with Atari. Apparently I will hear from them in 7-10 days. Which from what I read in this forum will then require me to provide proof of purchase. Of course If I coud have attached my scanned receit to the Customer Support form they would already have that "proof of purchase".

Well Atari I would like my Bonus content preferably sooner rather than much later...

There isn't really any bonus content yet - they're taking suggestion on what people would like.

I've had the same post going here at Atari Tech Support since release. The answer given by "Local Tester" may be the case, but Atari doesn't respond to any contact attempts, so far.

Since I've been a member of the forums, I have never once seen someone report success in emailing Atari tech support.

They have to respond to someone in Canada at some point. That'd be a big PR blunder if they don't, you'd think.

You would think, but thats exactly what they did to the NWN2 and TDU players. Ignored their emails, completely.

I posted this in my other thread, but I thought I better post here, as well, since there was some concern over Atari responding at all.

I received a response to my email from Atari today. They emailed me a registration key and it works.

While they were slow getting it out, they didn't quibble over details or anything. That's probably due to the fact that it's not relevant for copy protection like with other games. I'm satisfied, despite my complaints about slow customer service.

Hopefully, they'll look into the reason for the missing code and correct it in the future. Quality Control on their print materials and all.

I too have received my Registration Key by email in response to the Customer Support form I filled out.

I would like to extend my thanks to Atari for dealing with this issue in a prompt straight forward manner. No muss, no fuss.

It is more than one week I send a cd-key request by email to the customer service. I got two ticket numbers in email reply, but still no answer.

The same. Not pleased at all. I even have a picture with my DVD, case, manual, and receipt all together and I haven't even had a reply beyond the automated one. I'm sure Atari's support is busy, but it's really rather irritating to hear stories of people who bought the game after me, submitted their request for their codes days after me, and then hearing they received it a day later while I'm still sitting here twiddling my thumbs.

Well, I've finally got my cd-key after one week of waiting.

What is odd, they never requested a proof of purchase. So imagine somebody who did not bought the game and request also a cd-key. How Atari can know for sure if he got the game or not?

This is incredible, absolutely incredible. TWO weeks, and no response from Atari's support team.

Protip Atari: Non-existent support is a pretty big reason to push people to piracy. If a person isn't going to get any help or response from the publisher's own mistake after giving them 60 dollars, why should that person give them their money?

I'm going to send a -third- request in and hope someone is willing to stop playing solitaire and do their stinking job for once so I can get the full product I paid for.

Unbelievable.

Getting a response from Atari support is like pulling teeth....... I have opened two tickets in the past nine days for a CD-Key. The second was because I didn't get any response from the first.

Nine days has passed without any news. This is getting to be very frustrating.

Same here.

Atari,
Please respond. You are leaving your Canadian customers out in the cold!

Sorry, but I do not work for Customer Support, I am in QA.

You are aware that you do not need a key to play the game right? The key is only to register, and I do not think there is any benefit to do so yet. I do not understand the impatience in waiting for the keys.

I will however pass along this info in an attempt to move this along for everyone.

Hi Local Tester
Thank you for taking the time to respond and for passing the info along.

I think most of us know that the key is not needed. I can't speak for everyone but my message wasn't out of impatience really but frustration.

It seems emails to Atari support are disapearing into some IT black hole. Customers like to be treated with respect and not responding at all after almost two weeks is a sign of lack of respect. If Atari had came back and said something like "Hi, we're out of CD keys and won't be restocked for a couple of weeks. Please be patient" then I would be OK with that.

Is there a phone number to call for Atari support? I've filed 3 support requests electronically but have yet to here from Atari (beyond the automated response).

Not quite true - the CD key is needed to get access to all the extras such as music files, extra quests, making of dvd etc. which are coming out in the next few weeks/months.

However your best bet is to try the retailer you bought it from first.

I thought 5 days was a long wait for an e-mail response but I guess I was wrong. Compared to you guys, I've probably still got more waiting to do. I'm not really in a rush to get a cd-key since the extras aren't even out yet. However, it would be nice to have it already done when the time comes.

I should probably mention that I'm not in Canada. I'm in the US and got The Witcher as part of a promo with a 9600GT video card. I received exactly the game disc in a sleeve and nothing else. No manual, no cd-key. Having the manual would be nice but I'll settle for a cd-key, if they ever respond to my request. I wonder if there's a download of the manual somewhere.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that Canadians aren't the only ones who've had this problem. I understand that the cd-keys aren't such a priority but waiting entire weeks just for any response beyond the automated one is kind of a long wait.
