The Witcher Constantly Crashing

For those of you who have The Witcher. No spoilers or anything.

I have now spent quite a long time simply getting it to work without crashing every 5 minutes. It generally happens either when I load the journal or inventory, and sometimes when I save or load a new area.

I'm patched to 1.2, and am on the latest nvidia drivers. 169.25 I believe. I'm using Vista 32 bit. I have the Windows hotfix that they recommend to install to address virtual memory usage. I've tried running in windowed mode. No luck with anything. I also tried the BCDEdit fix which appears to be common. That did not work either.

Anyone have anything for me here? Please.
