AMD Hybrid CrossfireX Issue?

Hello,

I'm having problems getting RCT3 running on my new PC build. Its an AMD 780G chipset motherboard with a Athlon X2 CPU. The operating system is Vista 64-bit. I have a HD3450 video card which support hybrid crossfire graphics (with the integrated HD3200 graphics). I've tried with the crossfire graphics *and* with the HD3450 (256MB on board ... and borrows system memory as necessary).

I'm getting the following error message:
"Your graphics hardware or drivers do not meet the minimum requirements to run RCT3. This error has also been sent to Debug.log. OK:<Attempt to continue> Cancel:<Exit>"

If I try to continue, I get the standard 'RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 has stopped working" Windows error box.

My hardware is more than capable. I've read on the forum that RCT3 historically has issues with integrated graphics and GPUs that 'borrow' system memory. I've tried the dual-core Securom patch .exe. As I mentioned above, I tried the HD3450 with the HD3200 disabled. I've also tried the suggestions to change the Compatiblity modes to XP SP2/Win2k/etc... and Run As Administrator.

Any suggestions?

Its not compatible with WinXP Pro x64 either and my other OS is Vista Ultimate x64.

It's not a 64-bit issue. I'm running it fine with Vista Ultimate x64.

Sorry, but I don't know what is causing it to not run. Maybe another poster will come along with a solution.

Have you tried posting over at the Frontier forums about this? Don't know if they have an answer either, but certainly worth a try.

I use the HD 3870 but it's not Crossfire, and I'm running Vista Home Premium at 32 bit without problem.

Its a DX10 graphics card issue as the game only likes DX9c graphics cards, what i had to do was remove my HD3470 and disable the IGP's HD3200. I then re-installed my trusty old X1650 (which Vista likes by the way) and RCT3 is now working just fine!

Strange...many of us have no such problem running the game just fine with a DX10 card. Perhaps it was a combination of factors? In any case, glad scorpidragon got it fixed...

I won't quite say I've got it fixed, but I've gotten the game to run on that PC now... minutes ago actually ....

I took the HD3450 out of the system, much like scorpidragon, but just let the system run completely off the onboard HD3200. After reloading this month's Catalyst drivers, RCT3 ran fine. It auto-detected in 'High' quality at 800x600.

Its probably more of a Hybrid CrossfireX problem than a game problem it seems. Is anyone running RCT3 on Vista 64 with a 'normal' Crossfire setup? I'm curious if its Crossfire ... or Hybrid Crossfire that's the culprit (or at least an accomplice).

For those curious, the HD3200 onboard is getting a 3.5 for Aero performance and 3.6 for gaming performance in Vista's Windows Experience Index... Hybrid CrossfireX with the HD3450 was getting a 4.0. Not horrible for an integrated solution...

I guess I'll have to wait a little while for the drivers to mature a bit. I'm having other issues I'm suspicious are related to Hybrid Crossfire ... so I might have to shelf that card for awhile... I probably should notify AMD's tech support of the incompatibility.

Yes, the culprit could be either (or both) Hybrid Crossfire & Surround View.

I have had not one single issue with RCT3 since then too.

Ahh... I haven't installed RCT3 often enough on PCs with decent GPUs to notice if it detected quality settings on anything other than 800x600. My wife is the RCTx fan and her soon to be retired PC had a GF6600 and our laptop had Intel chipset garbage graphics.

So it sounds like the integrated graphics solution is roughly 2 resolution steps behind a decent discrete card. For an integrated solution, I guess it could be worse...

I've heard the HD3450 + HD3200 is 50% faster than a HD3450 alone... if it works... Hopefully we're just one driver release away...
