Summer Showdown - Challenge 2 Voting

Vote for your FAVOURITE.
You may vote for up to TWO teams.
Click on the pictures below to see the rest
of the screenshots before voting!!!

Competitors may NOT vote.
The poll will end on Wednesday 20th August.
One of these teams have already had to pull out from the competition, so the voting won't determine who is eliminated.

The challenge was to create an Asian or African themed area.
There had to be three rides in the area.
These included one Thrill ride, one Gentle/Junior ride and one of the teams' choosing.
When voting you should consider how well the teams met the requirements.

Remember - clicking on a picture below will take you to the rest of the screenshots.
There are about 8 screenshots on each page, so be patient if they take a while to load.

Team 1

Team 2

Team 3

Team 4

Team 5

Because four of these teams are automatically through to the next round regardless of how many votes they get, it would be very useful to them if you post your thoughts, opinions and suggestions for each area.

Good luck to all the teams!

2 & 3 got my votes. Excellent work all around, but these two really stood out from the crowd. Group 1 was a very, very close 3rd.

2 & 3 got my votes also... My fav was number 2 the architecture was amazing and it really stood out from the rest... Number three also turned out really well and theres something about it that i can't quite put my finger on, it was very nice I also liked number one's entry although I think you could of used another pic or two to better show the area and unfortunately fall just outside my votes, number 5 closely follows and it looks great, but i must say number 4 didn't really do much for me this time, although very nice it doesn't quite match the level of this comp, it looks a lot less finished than the other entries and also less detailed although with a little work could come out looking great I'm glad you tried to be a bit different, unfortunately it didn't really go your way this time, good luck to everyone, can't wait to see what is produced in the final round

Love it. Fantastic theming, only problem I think is that parts of it seem a bit bare, as if in the grassy bits surrounding the area just had a few trees placed there for quickness. The dakr ride is very nicley themed, great lighting. Awesome idea with the top spin over the waterfall. But the play area is my favourite part - it's just such an original idea how you've used bits of coaster tracks and flume tunnels to create it!

Team 2
My favourite entry. I think the Carousel Tower says it all really, it's just so brilliantly themed. From what I can see the rides and buildings fit together perfectly, it forms a really nice little area. I think a few more lights might have been good in the first two pictures, they seem a little dark. But other than great job!

Team 3
Very original theme, there's just so much detail. The museum dark ride looks interesting, I like how you've done the lighting with the lasers. Shame we haven't seen more of OctoDance, because all that seems like is a flat ride stuck inside a building. Great use of buildings throughout the whole park, you've made good use of the limited area.

Note - this team uses 10 screenshots instead of 8. I'm guessing they didn't read the thread carefully enough. In normal circumstances I would have asked them to get rid of two, but because nobody is being eliminated due to the voting I couldn't be bothered and it doesn't really matter.

Team 4
Probably the weakest entry, it all seems a bit rushed. Or rather, you had a great idea with Tomb of the Mummy, started Horus and then ran out of time so quickly themed it and squeezed in an extra ride. That's the way I see it. It could have been great if you'd focused equally on all three rides.

Team 5
My second favourite. So much detail and so much theming! I like how Scirocco towers above everything else. I'm pleased someone decided to use the go-karts ride, it looks great fun racing through the marketplace. It's all so full of life and would be great to explore.

Overall, great job to all the teams.

I really like them all. #4 could have been better, but it had a very good dark ride. #1 and 2 had a very good Asian feel to them. #5 was neat, and had a very nice feel to it. #3 had some good rides and a noticeable landmrk (definately a check).

I was really impressed with number one, if I do say so myself. Way to pull off an outstanding Asian feel. Very nice. All entries were once again quite good. See you all in the next challenge! Woot.

For me, Team 3 is the obvious winner. The effort they put in really paid off. It is perfection.

It was a tough call between 2 and 5 though, but I decided 2 based upon the fact that it seems more consistant and realistic.

Great Job Everybody!

Team 1

Samurai sold it for me, an awesome ride that has a great place over the rocks and had a good atmosphere to it, there are plain areas but the rides make up for that and a few extra bushes and trees fix that issue, the dark ride is well themed as well and the architecture around it is great.

Team 2

My favourite overall, great entrance that sets up the area well, nice levels that as said add great vista points and mystery to the area. Very unique and well mixed theming and the story for Nagami fits the theme and architecture surrounding it.

Overall nice work from everyone and its great to view everyones unique ideas and their different takes on the task set, you've all set a high standard with your roller coasters from the first round, keep it going.

I think team 4's was really rushed. My favorite are team 2 & 3's. Team 1's was great, as well.

Great. I actually see this one when voting is still open and now my vote doesn't count for anything! Is there no justice in this world? I demand restitution! I demand compensation!

That being said, I'll now tell you what I think about all of the entries, in full detail. (Because I know all of you want to hear it)

So, kudos to those teams that built darkrides. I guess that's Team 1, 3, and 4 (partially). I like how Team 4 was lazy and instead of actually building anything they just (apparently) googled "blacklight jungle walls". Not sure what we're supposed to be shooting at, though. All the things on the billboards are harmless, innocent, and beautiful.

And while I'm picking on Team 4, I might as well mention the trees. So, you were going for an egyptian theme, right? Then there's dense foliage and...um.. pine trees? All the pictures of egypt I've ever seen only include one kind of tree: nonexistent ones. I realize then you're area would look a bit barren, but I suppose you could've gotten away with palm trees of some sort.
But you guys did do a good job on what you did do. It all looks very nice and crisp. It's just some things are out of place. Oh, and the fact that it's not done.

Moving on, I was a bit troubled with some of Team 1's pictures. They all seem very dark and dank. Was one of you in a bad mood when you decided to take the pictures? Not only does the dark ride look incredibly scary, but the top spin looks like it's about to kill something and that tea cups keeps giving me the eye. I'm not quite sure if I connect black with blood red accent with tea cups... And what's up with the rain? Oh, and I love this quote from the top spin's description:
"This is a test for the very brave hearted as Samurai shows no mercy. This topspin ride will hurtle guests head over heels above the dangerous rocks and waterfalls, pitting them against the elements in a ferocious battle of force."
Getting a bit carried away aren't we?

Onto a bit happier looking entry, Team 5's looks like it could be nice. But all the pictures are jumbled and I really can't tell what's going on in any of them. The last one gave me a nice overhead view of the whole thing, but I'd like some good artsy shots like some of the other entries. The palace and foliage look good, but... well, I just don't see very much.

And I'm surprised that Team 2 is actually leading the voting, when they clearly didn't even finish all of the requirements. I see two rides! From what I can tell, entries were supposed to consist of one other ride, from the "other rides" category. Clearly you thought you could pull one over on us with your fancy angles and beautiful architecture. But you can't fool me! I'm up to your tricks! I mean, at least Team 4 plopped down enough stuff to complete all the requirements! psh.

Onto a team that actually finished everything... Team 3, I have a bit of a tiff with that tower thing. What is it supposed to be? My first thought was "lighthouse" but all of the what-could-be windows seem to be boarded up. It must be to some importance, made clear by the immense amount of ridiculous purple lighting as shown by the last picture. It looks like a rocket ship awaiting take-off. I also was very disappointed with how you presented the darkride. Here we go, taking off on what seems like a very nice and well-themed museum tour. Then you get to the climax of the ride: It seems like some of the artifacts have awaken a deadly spirit from the underworld! Then... what? Nothing? You can't just leave a cliffhanger like that! I must know what happens! Did you just not finish it or something?

Okay, I think I covered all the teams. I ended up voting for Teams 1 and 3. The darkrides just did it for me. I love them, and would be soooooo interested in a POV.

Whoa. Long post.

Team 2 has three attractions...a Kaos, a Slide, and a Carousel. Read the rules of challenge two. The last ride was a toss up, it could have been from any category, not just "other."

Not that I am team 2...

Clearly you thought you could win the competition with your fancy angles and beautiful architecture and flagrant understanding of the requirements. But you can't win me over! I'm impressed, but I'm sticking with my decision! I mean, at least Team 4 plopped down enough stuff to complete all the requirements, like all of the other entrants! Hurrah!

Well, I suppose one team has given themselves away... but if you look at one of the pictures you can see the coaster from the last challenge in the background anyway.

SCS - at least you automatically make it through to the next round. If you've got time you can come back to this area and improve it if you make it through to the final.

Team 1: I really like the building in Mystic Valley. Some of them are really detailed and beautiful. However, I can't feel the same about the sourroundings. I don't feel like it's the same high standard as the buildings. I really like their playground, to bad people can't use it. This team wont get my vote but they did do a great job!

Team 2: This is sweet candy for the eyes. They've cought the Chineese theme very good, the buildings as well as the nature. Great use of waterfalls and good landscaping overall. The sushi bar/buffet and the double merry-go-around is two highlights at Dynasty Ridge in my opinion. This team will get one of my votes.

3: When I look at it I really get that arabic feel. However, since I'm not very familiar with the theme I can't say much about it. But I do like it. Great buildings here too although there is some pieces here and there that don't seem to fit, in my eye. The museum and the dark ride is two highlights of Tunis. You'll get my vote. Good job!

4: Wow! I really like the clean-ness I fell here. And that darkride... it's fantastic! And I think I know who did it. I'm not so sure about the vegetation, it looks a little bit to woodland-ish instead of rainforest-ish. Shouldn't there be a resturant somewhere though? Great job on this too!

5: The smal details is what makes Sultan City great. The market objects fits perfectly for this theme. This place is really, really beautiful at night with all the small lights and stuff. I can't say much more about this, if I could give three votes. You guys would get my third one.

1. Definitely my favorite, the creativity of the playground dazzled me, along with that really cool darkride they made.
2. My second choice, the waterfalls and the rides were really cool, and the buildings all looked different.
3. This would've been my third choice, because the theme is very unique and the buildings are really interesting.
4. I really liked the look of the darkride, but the rest of the park looks a little unfinished to me...
5. This one was really cool as well, I liked the pool in it and the market. The market looked spectacular to me- that is very possibly my favorite part about it.

Note: I didnt read this thread before giving my opinion, i went straight to the pics. Any similarity to any other review is purely coincidental.

Team 1. I like this. I dont have any complaints apart from it seems a little sparse on the theming of the general area. A few more bushes or even better, a couple of water features would have made this excellent. The buildings are great, the dark ride is themed well, as is the carousel. And that playground? Finger licking good!

Team 2. My second favourite. Excellent use of the limited asian sets we have. The sushi restaurant is great, but it's a bit dark in there, a little brighter light in places would have worked miracles. The tea house is brilliantly themed, just the place i would want to go to relax in the middle of a busy coaster riding day. Now my fave part of this area, the carousel tower, first impression of the daytime shot was it felt a little strange with the mix of cs you used, but that thought went out the window when i saw the night shot. Now that is what theming a carousel is all about. Stunning.

Team 3. Not so keen on this one. Dont get me wrong, teasures of anubis is one of the best dark rides i have ever seen in rct, i especially love the laser use inside the exibition, but the foyer makes my eyes hurt to look at, too busy for a museum in my opinion. The rest of the area looks too haphazard, too many cs sets used and you used those horrible multi-coloured tiled walls almost everywhere, for that reason alone, you dont get my vote.

Team 4. Great use of UV billboards on the tomb of the mummy, a great idea there. As for the rest of the area, what happened? It just looks, well, plonked and a few trees thrown at it. This looks like a WIP in my opinion, shame really, with a little more work it could have been great.

Team 5. My favourite by a long shot. It's busy, almost to the point of claustrophobia, but thats perfect for this type of theming. There are so many details in this that you just cant take them all in. A lot of thought and effort has gone into this, you have done wonders with the limited space that was allocated to this. Well done.

Well these themes were definately harder to pull of than other "stock" themes. Although there are some pieces for an egyptian theme, it just isn't sufficient until now. The asian theme as well is worth noting. People's creativity was definately shown in these parks, and how well each theme could be carried out.

Team 1 was very well crafted, but it just didn't capture the full asian theme, or maybe it was just too open. Lots of that ugly green grass everywhere turned it off for me =/ More pictures should have been taken along the lines of the ride "Samurai". The level of detail in the picture surpasses the others IMO, but the adventure playground was truly inventive.

Team 2 really captured the asian theme. But, that double decked carousel structure is an eyesore. Everything else has clean lines and a pagoda feel, and then theres this large octagonal structure with CS thrown upon it. If you had kept a single layer carousel the scenery and architecture would have flown together more elegantly. Aside from that, great attention to detail and wonderful execution of the theme.

Team 3 got one of my votes. So much detail, and a very african feel. Again the detail was superb and one of the only teams to use billboards for their ride names and museum titles. Excellent excellent work. Perhaps a tad too much lighting on the tower, also not sure what that is, but it does fit in well with the rest of the park.

Team 4 I would love to ride that dark ride. Just the fact that billboards were used throughout the (i'd assume) whole ride, the cutting of the images must have taken a while. I do like the choice of rides for Isis, and Horus but the surrounding area looks a bit incomplete. You could have masked that with zooming in a bit more to showcase the rides. It doesn't look very complete since the rest of your pictures focus on horus and isis, but nonetheless a well execution of a safari-esqu area.

Team 5 my other vote. Again superb detail, even with the stock scenery pieces. The thing I like best is how you set up the area, as a village marketplace. And everything interacts with that, along with being encased in stone walls, just like a sultans palace would be. Excellent planning, and I love how it looks like an oasis in the midst of a desert. Great work.

In all, every team deservs a round of applause or an internet cookie for their hard work, volunteering there summer to entertain the rest of the community. Hopefully, no more teams will drop out, and there can be a third round =]

Looking forward to it! Keep up the great work teams!

To all the other Teams in this challenge , I must say that You did a wonderful job on all of these. I am impressed with the high quality of the parks . This is really pushing the limits of this game and shows that new stuff can still be made .
