Summer Showdown - Challenge 3

The third and final challenge is here!
You must choose one of the three marked areas in your park to work in.
You've got until the weekend of the 6th September to get this done, so two weeks.
Nobody will be eliminated this round, we've had enough drop out as it is.

Create a water-based tracked ride, which could be anything from river rapids to a water coaster. The ride should tell a story, so it should have some sort of introduction (could be the start of the ride or the queue) and a climax at the end.

But here's the twist - the story and theme cannot involve any sort of ancient civilisation. So basically nothing to do with Atlantis or jungle temples or an Indiana Jones sort of thing.

The ride will need a name of course. It should be both indoors and outdoors.

RESTRICTIONS
  • The ride must have a track, and be at least partically water-based. Obvious examples are rapids and log flume and white water rapids. The water coaster can be used so long as a good portion of the ride has water segments, as can the giant flume. A wooden coaster is not allowed (those splash segments don't really count) and neither does something like the Roller Soaker, so don't use them.
  • As said before, no ancient civilisation or lost city sort of theme. We had enough of them with Tempest. Be original, think of something different.
  • The ride must include both indoor (enclosed) parts and outdoor parts.
  • The ride should have an interesting queue.
  • Any peep naming or options.txt cheats ARE allowed.
  • Keep it realistic.
So, for example, you could have a white water rapids ride through some rocky mountains and in caves and stuff, telling a story of some adventurers or something. Or maybe go with a spooky log flume in a haunted castle or something. It's completely up to you.

You have until the weekend of 6th September. Good luck!

_____________________________________________________________________________

Submitting the park

Send me a PM some point in that weekend (or before). I don't really want to be waiting after Sunday 7th.

You should submit:

- A ZIP file with a folder called your team name.
- An advert image, just like last time. This should be 640 x 480.
- A maximum of 10 screenshots.
- A txt. document. This should include the story. The story can be a seperate bit of text and then you can have captiosn for each picture, or you could tell the story through the captions. Don't make the story too long otherwise nobody will be bothered to read it all.
- All images should be 800 pixels wide maximum and 480 pixels high maximum. All images should be JPEGS.

Nothing else needs to be submitted.

Fantastic challenge sir..

No Atlantis means we'll hopefully see some great originality, and that's the best part of this competition..

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

Question: Can we still use scenery from the "ancient" sets so long as the theme/overall design isn't ancient culture? I'm just asking so I can see what my options are.

That was rather rude ^

Good luck teams - I had the area planned out to be Greece with a river raft...so it's cool and odd that it was chosen like that!

I'm seriously!! I sat with the water coaster menu open for 2 hours looking at the rides available and really could come up with nothing. No ancient culture narrows the options a bit with what the game has available. Maybe I will go with my one idea , post apocolyptic .

I think originality is part of judging, so, ebven though Jurassic Park River adventure is cool, I bet that noone will do it.

Just checked out Linux and it was great! The water ride was excellent. But when I said a sci-fi log flume, I was thinking about something darker and more infused with industry or even horror.

MGP: Post Apocalyptic sounds awesome. There are so many ways to do it... you could have a ride about the apocalpse itself, or just the post part.

Weird how people can run out of ideas as soon as ancient theming and jungle theming isn't allowed. Towersdude and I came up with an idea in 5 minutes. It will be challenging to design and create but I think we'll be able to do it.

I struggled for the last week, but I've got something now...it's just a matter of being able to finish it in a week. We'll see.
