Celestial Gardens - Important Message

saturday 10.11.08

Hello to my loyal compadres in cyberspace. I hope you've all been doing well and are refreshed for another round of reading words and staring at pictures! This week, I located a small themed garden park in the middle of a giant regional parkland area that had to be the most obscure thing I've visited in a while. Hardly anyone knows about it because it's tucked away on a plot of land that is flanked by square miles of protected forest. What's even more strange about this place is the name. Celestial Gardens. You would think that the park would have some sort of theme based on that name, but in fact it's quite the opposite. The park also had a bizarre collection of rides that you cannot find anywhere else in the country. Now, it's not bizarre in a bad way. It's just...bizarre. I'll show you what I mean!

Upon entering, you find yourself face to face with a very unorganized central garden. Many playful architectural elements are dotted throughout and the paths eventually dump you around a main fountain. It was kind of cool to see a large garden as the first thing when you walk in. Most park go for the steel madness look nowadays.

The main fountain had no ornamentation or (again) anything to do with "Celestial" but the jet program was pretty nice to watch.

This one is the first of the bizarre rides. It's called "Root Beer Barrels" and the flatride program acts a lot like a floundering ferry...but it's very different. And dare I say, better! It's hard to catch a full photo of this thing in action.

But here is my attempt - So the way this ride works is it's pulled up to the top of the track, dropped and falls to the other side. Then it goes back up - back down - back up - and by this time, the free rotation release has been clicked and the thing spins like crazy. It's like a disk-o, but the forces are so much more intense and centralized. By the time the thing stops, you're wondering which direction is which. The other thing that makes this ride unique is the fact that there is no rotation program. If you have heavier people on one side, the tub will spin faster and with more force. If you have lighter people on the ride, the experience is more subdued. You can't guess what kind of ride you'll have until you're on it.

The second completely unique ride is this walkthrough attraction. It's called Geyser Spring Park and the journey takes you through this fictional 'park' so you can get sprayed by fountains acting like geysers.

Think of it as a first generation water-play area. it has absolutely no narrative, no characters, no backstory...but it's really fun!

Your journey includes underground caves, pointed rock formations, spouting geysers, and the piece de resistance - a big waterfall that sprays the path.

This guy got the wrath of the geyser...he wasn't smiling afterwards!

Off to bizarre attraction #3 - The Kissing Tunnel. An old school boat ride built into the side of a real hill reminiscent of the classic "Tunnel of Love" attractions found in the early 20th century. Unfortunately, it wasn't operating by the time I found it.

And, the last of the bizarre attraction lineup. This was a combination of really cool...and really terrifying! Three pivoting airplanes are suspended on a giant frame and do death-defying stunts over 100ft above the ground! It's probably best that you go to the bathroom before you board.

What can't be seen is the really awesome theming constructed around the ride. There were runways for each of the planes and even the line had some cool props. Also, what's rather interesting about this is that each plane had a canister of colored smoke and during each flight, the planes would release it making giant circles of smoke. Fascinating attraction.

In the queue, you can see firsthand what kind of stunts these planes perform. The giant arms swoosh past you, kicking up some dust and sometimes colored smoke too.

Moving over to the park's signature attraction, SuperDuperLuper, you pass by a small picnic area. This is another strange and bizarre feature. Quietly picnicing by a giant red and white scream machine... so peaceful - I guess that's why there's no one there at the tables!

The station was nice and airy - and the line wasn't too bad throughout the day. It's nice to see such an obscure park have a healthy weekend crowd.

SuperDuperLuper is a standard Schwartzkopf double looper, but the ride is fantastic. A little rough around the edges, but one of the funnest layouts I've been on. I may be a little biased though because I'd take a Schwartzkopf over any B&M anyday.

Closing this update is a pic of the park's waveswinger. Not anything too terribly exciting, but the footchopper landscaping did add a lot to the ride. These things always make for great shots though.

All in all, it was a very fun day at a very unique park - I may do a little research on this one because it breaks all of the rules of successful theme park conventions...yet it is a success in so many ways. I didn't even get around to the entire park, the Eastern half was closed off for garden repair and ride refurbishments. So I might have to make another trip back to Celestial Gardens when the refurbs are complete...Oh and another thing - I must find out why the park is called Celestial Gardens...it doesn't make any sense people!!

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the read - I'll catch you peeps later!

So first, this is NOT my original design. I need to give credit to Boston for this wonderful piece. Although I have had my hand in re-inventing it...the brilliance of the concept was all his.

I've decided to go with an indirect approach to presenting this park (ala Ryan's blog) - partly because it'll save me from doing 'construction' updates, but also because it can be more interesting to read for you guys. I mean, just right now you can begin to speculate the origin of the park's name.

I hope you guys enjoy this park and this thread - I won't say it's the next CPG..but the story might be just as interesting.

BTW, my real name is mike!

How lovely, well done Boston and Mike! Or .. Well spotted Ryan, good find! This looks like a very unique park. It's great to see the Tunnel of Love make a come-back, it's adorable. I feel like exploring Geyser Spring Park for myself, if I only had the opportunity. The landscaping is absolutely fantastic, I love how it's the main focus throughout the entire park. The architecture there is, doesn't do much more than keeping a roof up in an as elegant as possible fashion. Very refreshing to look at.

I'm loving it.

Fantastic park you have here.
The landscaping is really good, and I love the place you've chosen for the Schwarzkopf.

Those fountains in the 3rd picture, are they cs or?

Oh yeah! *Kool Aid voice*

This is wonderful. First wonderful thing is the nature and landscaping. The walkthrough attraction is one example. The kind of creek/canyon-ish look is fantastic. And working with that detailed landscaping isn't easy. Well done!

The other is the choise of rides. I'm glad you choosed a different set of rides. In this park you see everything that you wont see in many other parks. To list up my favorites in this park we get;

-SuperDuperLuper ( great name! Well made though).
-Waveswinger (I hate to go on spinny rides in real life, but this is to beautiful).
-The walkthrough thingy (Why are they carrying around golf sticks? ).
-The Kissing Tunnel (Such a classic!).

So to wrap this up, Great to see you back in action!

P.S For what should I give credit to who? Great job Boston and Mike anyway.

Welcome back n747 and a great job between you and Boston so far I have to say. I love the disorganised but very peaceful look to the park but I will say in parts it looks very crowded but hey.

Also where didi you get the inpsiration for the Root Beers ride becasue it looks a lot like a spinning version of the butterfly model rollercaoster (yes its a real rollercaoster lol theres loads of the in parks in Holland and places like that). I had one of them in my park if it is and youve doen a much better job as I found mine really hard to work with.

Cheers

Looks absolutely fantastic! I'm glad you are being imaginative and creating your own rides. I really like parks without massive steel giants and this park is just right. SuperDuperLuper looks very realistic and I am looking forward to see more.

I hope this park is just as good as CPG.

Yay! A Brand New N747 park! Looks great - really love how youv'e tried things outside the box to make new attractions out of existing ones, Root Beer Barrels reminds me of something I made back in rct2 but it looks far better. The water based springs thing is fantastic, would love to see more of that, infact I'd love to see more of the whole park in the future!

Glad to have a brand new park on the forums to grab my attention . Great job Mike (and Boston).

Wow. This is one heck of a park... Your pictures are just amazing! I really like the Geyser Spring Park, and just overall, your park is really beautiful. Like the rocks and the waterfall in the first pic! (I admire that a lot) This park deserves five stars! All the way!

Looks like a lovely start. The park itself isn't awesomely impressive or anything, it's the captions that make it worthwhile. I look forward to seeing how this evolves.

Awesome.
I love the unique takes on rides, like using the Virgina Reel as a flat ride, and the landscaping is superb! Great work.

OHMYGAWD! What is that massive plane ride? It looks awesome! CFR?

I love the detail you've put into this park, not that it's a surprise or anything... You manage to make it appear very familiar and very real.

^No CFR, just a loop de loop. A very large, in game flat ride.

You've made some very lovely alterations, n7! I'm glad this park is in good hands. Now if only we could find a suitable cover for those awful orange mini-golf pathways...

^ Actually, you could use water world set two covers that are used
for pool paths, but also work with golf paths. There wooden too and would work perfectly.

Do shyguy's waterslide path covers work? The paths look the same, but I have no idea if they work on the mini-golf course...

n7... you're back! And with gusto! I love the uniqueness of the park... the small waterfalls add a nice touch to the atmosphere. Oddly enough, I've never noticed that loop-de-loop plane ride. That looks very cool. The creativity with the rootbeer barrel ride is great, also. The simplicity of the entrance is what makes it great. It's simply beautiful. I'll continue to watch this thread... it's good to have you back.

By the way, I think you should up the security a bit, it looks like there's a man looking to club someone with a 7 iron on the walk-through attraction...

Very glad to see you're back posting, my friend. I do have one complaint...the opening garden--those tall grass bushes (the western ones) look huge and sort of awkward. What if you sunk them into the ground a bit? It might help.

Looks nice so far, I agree with masked bandit about those western bushes but I'm not sure if they'd look better sunk because they'd look like plant coming out the ground :/ Where are the lamps from?

^I wonder about that too, looks like the lamps are from one of eezee's sets,or maybe not.Anyway, I love the coaster, it reminds me of "Daemonen" at Tivoli Gardens.I don't like the "Loop-de-loop" ride, it looks poorly built and unrealistic!
