I was reading the Atari European Forum and found (In German) an article on how someone got AoW to work. Apparently AoW dose not like any more than 3 Gigs of Ram (I have 4 Gigs of Ram and it dose not work). I downloaded the file and in it are 2 bat files, RamFix-Off and RamFix-On. You run the RamFix-On then reboot, this will limit your system to 3 Gigs of ram, and run the game. You will get the 16-bit error message but just click ok (and ok on any other error messages you may get). When finished playing just run the RamFix-Off and reboot and your ram is reset.
I haven't tried this with AoW:HT but I just finished a 1-hour skirmish with AoW: DA and had no problems. Here is the European Atari site. The AOWHT-RAMFIX file is near the bottom. You'll have to register on their site to be able to download. I'd offer it here but I can't seem to attach any files. Oh it uses the bcdedit file located in Windows/System32 folder to limit the RAM, this comes with vista. Just Google it and you will find explanations of what it does (way beyond my computer skills). http://forums.eu.atari.com/showthread.php?p=2015707 Thanks goes to widardd (on the European site) |

Another option to downloading this file is to, if you are on Vista and have more than 3Gigs of RAM, is to.
1. click on the windows icon on the lower left. 2. In the "Start Search" type "msconfig" 3. When msconfig opens select the "Boot" Tab 4. Select "Advanced options" 5. You will see on the right "Maximum memory:" 6. Check the box and below you will see 4096, change this too 3000000000 (I think that is 3gigs of ram, as 4096 is 4 megs) 7. Select "Ok" and reboot. 8. You should be able to play AoW with out any problems, if you get any error msgs just click them and the game will should run. 9. To reset your ram follow steps 1 - 6 but this time uncheck the box "Maximum memory:" |

Read my first and second post. AoW does not work on a system with more than 3Gigs of RAM. I don't know if this fix will work with your Windows XP Pro 64bit operating system.
As I said in my first post, this fix works for me on my Vista64. Other than error messages popping up, I just click through them, the game runs fine. I've had no crashes, graphic corruptions, sound glitches. Works in Campaign, Skirmish and, the one multiplayer game I've played. I don't know how to better explain it other than see my first and second post. |

FIX - ACT OF WAR, Direct Action. Vista 64
Could not get to work on Vista then I found this link that put me on the right Track http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums...d.php?t=667241 Unlike they running on 3 GIG of RAM, I had to removed two of the 4 so it was using only 2 GIG of RAM and the game finnaly ran. (Just have to put the other 2 GIG back in later) It still would not run with 3 GIG for me Running Vista, 64 bit and 32 bit systems (put on two PC's with Core 2 Quad Processors) Seams to me like there should be a Registry tweak around this? But I wanted to get this out to help the emormose amount of people that have been trying all kinds of things to no avail to get this game running on Vista. Also this site is the only active one I have found for help, tweaks, patches etc for Act Of War games http://actofwar.filefront.com/ |
